More about Switch 2 repairs
The Switch 2 is harder to work on than the original Switch. iFixit scored it 3 out of 10 for repairability: the battery is glued in, and the game card reader, both USB-C ports and the internal storage are soldered to the main board. That's why some Switch 2 repairs cost more than the same job on an original Switch. I've been repairing electronics for over 25 years, and every repair here is done by me personally, on my own bench in Lancashire.
Try Nintendo first if it's still under warranty. The Switch 2 only launched in June 2025, so a lot of consoles are still covered by Nintendo's warranty. If yours is, and the fault isn't accidental damage, Nintendo is the honest first stop. That includes Joy-Con 2, which have their own repair request form on Nintendo's site. I'm here for accidental damage (a cracked screen, a port broken by a knock, liquid), out-of-warranty faults, and people who'd rather keep their own console than have it swapped.
Joy-Con 2 drift. The sticks in Joy-Con 2 are potentiometers, like the originals: a wiper slides over a resistive track, the track wears and dust gets in. My Joy-Con 2 drift repair swaps them for TMR sticks rather than Hall effect. Joy-Con 2 attach with magnets, which can interfere with Hall effect sensors, and TMR sticks are less affected by outside magnetic fields. More in my guide to Joy-Con 2 drift.
Charging, power and game cards. If it won't charge or won't dock, the charging port repair covers either USB-C port, and Switch 2 not charging has checks to try first. If there's no sign of life at all, the no-power repair starts with an assessment, and I send you a quote before doing any work. If it won't read cartridges, the game card reader repair replaces the soldered reader.
Screens and batteries. The Switch 2 has a 7.9-inch LCD with an anti-shatter film that Nintendo says not to remove. A cracked one is accidental damage, and my screen replacement fits a quality replacement panel. If it's just cracked, read Switch 2 screen cracked. The battery replacement is for batteries that no longer hold charge. If the back is bulging or the screen is lifting, stop using it and get in touch before posting anything, because a swollen battery can't go through Royal Mail.
Back up before you post. The storage is soldered to the board, so your saves live on the console itself. Where the game supports it, back up with Save Data Cloud first (it needs a Nintendo Switch Online membership). My guide to backing up save data walks through it.
Prices and policy. My Switch 2 repair cost guide puts every price side by side. Every repair is no fix, no fee, with a 12-month warranty and an insured, tracked return included. You pay the postage to me. Got an original Switch, OLED or Lite? Those are on my Nintendo Switch repair page.
