Switch 2 Repair Cost UK: Every Price in One Place

Switch 2 repairs with me cost £45 to £79 for Joy-Con 2 drift, £75 for a charging port, £135 for a screen, £69 for a battery and £85 for the game card reader. For board faults there's a £4.99 assessment, with repairs from £99. If your Switch 2 is still under Nintendo's warranty and the fault isn't accidental damage, go to Nintendo first.

Warranty first

The Switch 2 is still a new console, so yours may well be within Nintendo's warranty. If it is, and the fault isn't accidental damage (a drop, a crack or liquid), Nintendo should repair it at no cost. It has its own Switch 2 repair route, including a Joy-Con 2 request form. Once I've opened a console, Nintendo may refuse later warranty work, so it makes sense to try them first.

A cracked screen is different. Nintendo treats a broken screen as accidental damage, so it's out of warranty whatever the console's age. I've compared both routes in Nintendo repair vs an independent repairer.

Switch 2 repair prices

Joy-Con 2 drift: £45 one, £79 both

Joy-Con 2 use potentiometer sticks, the same basic design as the originals. A wiper slides over a resistive track that wears, and dust gets in. I replace them with TMR sticks rather than Hall effect. Joy-Con 2 attach with magnets, which can interfere with Hall effect sensors, and TMR sticks are less affected by outside magnetic fields. Opening a Joy-Con 2 means getting past a glued plastic rib that hides the screws, and the battery is glued too, so it's fiddlier than an original Joy-Con. Book on the Joy-Con 2 drift repair page, or read about TMR sticks vs Hall effect.

Charging port: £75

The Switch 2 has two USB-C ports, and both are soldered to the main board. Replacing either one is hot-air rework. A charging fault can also come from the chips behind the port rather than the port itself, which is why I check before replacing anything. See the Switch 2 charging port repair page.

Screen: £135

The Switch 2 has a 7.9-inch LCD with an anti-shatter film that Nintendo says not to remove. I fit a quality replacement panel. See the Switch 2 screen replacement page.

Battery: £69

The battery is glued in, so it has to be released carefully without damaging it or the parts around it. If the back is bulging or the screen is lifting, stop using it and get in touch before posting, because a swollen battery can't go in the post. See the Switch 2 battery replacement page.

Game card reader: £85

On the original Switch, OLED and Lite, the game card reader is a separate part. On the Switch 2 it's soldered to the board, so replacing it means board-level rework. See the Switch 2 game card reader repair page.

Won't turn on or won't charge: £4.99 assessment, repairs from £99

Board faults vary too much to price without looking. I assess the console for £4.99 and send you a quote. You approve it before I do any work. If you go ahead, the £4.99 comes off the repair. It isn't refunded if you decline or it can't be repaired. See the Switch 2 no power repair page.

Why the Switch 2 costs more than the original

iFixit gave the Switch 2 a repairability score of 3 out of 10. The battery is glued, and the game card reader, both USB-C ports and the storage are all soldered to the main board. On the original Switch, several of those are plug-in parts. Soldered parts need hot-air rework, more time and more care, and that's reflected in the price. For comparison, the game card reader is £55 on the original models and £85 on the Switch 2.

Some parts are still modular on the Switch 2, including the fan, headphone jack, microSD Express reader and speakers. If your fault involves one of those, get in touch and I'll let you know what's involved.

What's included

  • A 12-month warranty on the repair.
  • Insured, tracked return postage. You pay to post it to me.

You'll find every service on the Switch 2 repairs page. If you've got an original Switch, OLED or Lite, prices are in my Nintendo Switch repair cost guide.

Frequently asked questions

Should I send my Switch 2 to Nintendo or to an independent repairer?

If it's under Nintendo's warranty and the fault isn't accidental damage, Nintendo first. Opening the console may mean Nintendo refuses later warranty work. Out of warranty, or with accidental damage such as a cracked screen, an independent repair is worth comparing.

Why do you fit TMR sticks in Joy-Con 2 instead of Hall effect?

Joy-Con 2 attach with magnets, which can interfere with Hall effect sensors. TMR sticks are also magnetic but less affected by outside magnetic fields, which makes them the better fit.

Why is the Switch 2 game card reader dearer to replace?

It's soldered to the main board rather than being a separate part, so it has to be removed and replaced with hot-air rework, which takes more time than a plug-in swap.
