A Nintendo Switch repair with me costs from £35 for one drifting Joy-Con up to £129 for an OLED screen. Nintendo's own out-of-warranty repairs are capped at £120 for a Switch, £190.50 for an OLED and £108 for a Lite, and Nintendo repairs Joy-Con and Lite stick drift free. Below is every price, set side by side, so you can pick the right route for your fault.

Switch repair prices by model

Not sure which model you have? The model number is on the back of the console, and this guide explains how to tell them apart.

Original Switch (V1 and V2)

Switch OLED

  • OLED screen replacement: £129
  • Battery replacement: £55
  • Charging port replacement: £65
  • Game card reader replacement: £55
  • Fan replacement: £49
  • Board faults: £4.99 assessment, repairs from £89
  • Joy-Con drift, Hall effect upgrade: £35 for one, £59 for both

The OLED screen costs more because an OLED panel is dearer than the LCD used in the original Switch and the Lite.

Switch Lite

  • Lite screen replacement: £75
  • Lite stick drift, Hall effect upgrade: £49 for one stick, £59 for both
  • Battery replacement: £55
  • Charging port replacement: £65
  • Game card reader replacement: £55 (one assembly with the headphone jack, as on the original)
  • Fan replacement: £49
  • Board faults: £4.99 assessment, repairs from £89

What Nintendo charges

Nintendo UK publishes maximum prices for out-of-warranty repairs (price list effective 1 October 2021, including tax):

  • Switch OLED: up to £190.50
  • Switch: up to £120
  • Switch Lite: up to £108
  • Joy-Con: up to £26.40 each

Those caps cover game card reading errors, the screen, touchscreen, plastics and buttons, water damage, no power and the battery. Nintendo's price list says the maximum applies "when the item is swapped with a replacement or re-manufactured product". Your saves live on the console's internal storage, so a swapped console comes back without them unless they were backed up. Save Data Cloud needs a Nintendo Switch Online membership, and not every game supports it. Here's how to back up before any repair.

Nintendo also treats a broken screen as accidental damage, so it's out of warranty whatever the age of the console. Nintendo says a repair "might take up to 10 working days".

How the two routes compare

  • Stick drift: Nintendo UK fixes Joy-Con and Switch Lite drift free, even out of warranty. That's hard to beat, so try them first. My paid upgrade makes sense if you want Hall effect sticks or the controller has already been opened. Nintendo's free drift repair explained.
  • Original Switch screen: £85 with me against Nintendo's cap of £120.
  • OLED screen: £129 against a cap of £190.50.
  • Lite screen: £75 against a cap of £108.
  • Battery, charging port, card reader and fan: all below Nintendo's cap for the same model, and your console comes back as your console.
  • Still under warranty? If the fault isn't accidental damage, Nintendo should repair it at no cost. Go to them first.

Board faults and the £4.99 assessment

If your Switch won't turn on, won't charge or gives no picture on the TV, the cause could be the port or one of the chips behind it. I can't price that until I've looked, so you pay a £4.99 assessment and I send you a quote. You approve it before I do any work. If you go ahead, the £4.99 comes off the repair. It isn't refunded if you decline or the fault can't be repaired. Board repairs start from £89.

What's included in every price

  • No fix, no fee. If I can't repair it, I refund what you paid, less return postage.
  • A 12-month warranty on the repair.
  • An insured, tracked return.
  • You pay the postage to send it to me.

The work is done by me personally, and I test every console on my bench before it goes back. You can see every service on the Nintendo Switch repairs page.

Got a Switch 2?

The Switch 2 is built differently, with a soldered game card reader and two soldered USB-C ports, so its prices are different. They're all on the Switch 2 repair cost guide.

Frequently asked questions

Is it cheaper to repair a Switch or buy a new one?

For most single faults, repair is cheaper. The dearest fixed price for an original Switch, OLED or Lite is £129 for an OLED screen, and most jobs cost well under £100. Board faults vary, which is why they're quoted after a £4.99 assessment.

Does Nintendo charge for Joy-Con drift?

Not in the UK at the moment. Nintendo UK repairs Joy-Con and Switch Lite stick drift free, even out of warranty, until further notice. It can refuse if the fault comes from modification or an unofficial repair.

Do I pay postage both ways?

No. You pay to post the console to me, and the insured, tracked return is included in the price.
