Nintendo Switch Battery Replacement
No fix, no fee · 12-month warranty · Insured, tracked returns
Signs you need this repair
- Battery drains much faster than it used to
- Switches off suddenly at a percentage above zero
- Only works while plugged in
- Battery percentage jumps or drops unexpectedly
- Takes much longer to charge than it used to
Every lithium battery wears with charge cycles and age. As capacity drops, the console runs for less time and can switch off without warning even when the percentage says there's charge left. Before booking, check a few things: turn down brightness, check for a system update and try a hard reset. This guide to a Switch battery draining fast covers what to rule out first.
Important: if the battery is swollen, don't post it. A swollen or damaged lithium battery can't be sent through Royal Mail. If the back of the console is bulging or the screen is lifting, stop using it, don't charge it, and get in touch before posting anything.
The battery is glued in on every Switch model. I open the console, disconnect the old battery, release the adhesive carefully without bending the cell, fit the replacement and test charging and battery behaviour before it goes back. It's £55 for the original Switch, the 2019 revised model, the OLED and the Lite. If you have the launch model (HAC-001, serial starting XA), remember it was always shorter on battery life than the 2019 revised version, so a new battery restores it to what that model could do rather than matching the revised one.
Nintendo caps its out-of-warranty battery repair at £120 for the Switch, £108 for the Lite and £190.50 for the OLED, and that price applies when the console is swapped for a replacement or re-manufactured unit. A swapped console comes back without your save data unless it was backed up. I repair your own console and send that back. Back up what you can first anyway.
