Nintendo Switch Screen Replacement
No fix, no fee · 12-month warranty · Insured, tracked returns
Signs you need this repair
- Cracked or shattered glass
- Lines, patches or bleeding colour on the display
- Black screen while sound still plays
- Touch not responding, or responding in the wrong place
- Flickering or dim areas on the display
A dropped Switch or something heavy on the console is usually all it takes. The original Switch has a glass touch layer over an LCD panel, and depending on the damage the glass, the display or both can fail. Sometimes the screen looks fine but the touch layer stops responding, or the picture goes but sound keeps playing.
I open the console, remove the damaged screen, fit a quality replacement panel and test the display and touch before it goes back. It's £85 for the original Switch, both the launch model (HAC-001, serial starting XA) and the 2019 revised model (HAC-001(-01), serial starting XK). The OLED has a different, dearer panel and its own Switch OLED screen replacement page. The Lite has its own page too.
Nintendo treats a broken screen as accidental damage, so it's always out of warranty. Its capped out-of-warranty price for the Switch is £120, and that price applies when the console is swapped for a replacement or re-manufactured unit. Save data lives on the console's internal storage, so a swapped console comes back without it unless your saves were backed up. I repair your own console and send it back.
Even so, back up what you can before posting; this guide explains how to back up Switch saves. If the screen is lifting because the back is bulging, that's likely a swollen battery. Stop using it and get in touch before posting anything, as a swollen lithium battery can't go through Royal Mail. This guide to Switch screen repair costs compares the options in more detail.
