A Samsung Galaxy A72 battery replacement costs £59 by post, a charging port £59 and a back cover £49, all with genuine Samsung parts and a 12-month warranty. Samsung's own price for an A72 battery is £79. I don't offer screen replacements on the A72, because of how its fingerprint reader works. The screen section below explains why, and where to go instead.

The Galaxy A72 went on sale in the UK in March 2021 at £419, alongside the A52 5G. It's the larger of the pair, with a 6.7-inch 90Hz Super AMOLED screen, the fingerprint reader under the display, a big 5,000mAh battery with 25W charging, a plastic back, a headphone jack and IP67 water resistance. It was the last A7x phone Samsung sold in the UK, and its long battery life is a big part of why owners keep them.

Which Galaxy A72 do I have?

Go to Settings > About phone and check the model number. The A72 sold in the UK is SM-A725F, and that's the phone this page covers. I'll ask for the model number when you book, and your phone's colour for a back cover. This guide shows where to find it.

Galaxy A72 screen replacement

The A72's fingerprint reader is an optical sensor beneath the display, calibrated to the screen it sits under. After a new screen it needs recalibrating with Samsung's own equipment, and the A72 isn't part of Samsung's Self-Repair programme, so that calibration isn't available to independent repairers. That's why I don't replace A72 screens. I'd rather tell you here than send your phone back with a fingerprint reader that may not work.

If your A72 screen is broken, Samsung's recommended price for a replacement is £139, and its repair service calibrates the fingerprint reader as part of the job. If you use another repairer, ask whether the screen is genuine and whether they can calibrate the fingerprint reader afterwards. This guide explains the fingerprint problem in more detail.

Galaxy A72 battery replacement

The A72's 5,000mAh battery gave it some of the best battery life of any Samsung of its time, which makes a worn one all the more noticeable. The signs are a phone that needs a top-up by the afternoon, switches off with charge showing, or runs warm on the charger. You can check its condition in Samsung Members under Support > Phone diagnostics > Battery status, and this guide explains the result.

The A72's plastic back is glued to the frame, and the battery is glued underneath. I soften the back's adhesive with heat, lift it off, work the battery out without bending it, fit a genuine Samsung 5,000mAh battery and reseal the back with new adhesive. The screen and fingerprint sensor aren't disturbed, and I check the fingerprint reader before the phone goes back. It's £59, against Samsung's £79. Here's why a genuine battery matters.

A new battery restores battery life. It won't make the phone faster, because lag is usually storage, apps or software. This guide to fast battery drain helps you find the cause.

If the back is lifting, stop and contact me first. A back that's lifting away from the frame can be adhesive giving way, but it can also be a battery that has started to swell. Don't keep charging it, and contact me before posting it.

Galaxy A72 charging port repair

The A72's USB-C port sits on a small charging board at the bottom of the phone together with the headphone jack and the microphone. A genuine replacement board fixes a worn, loose or damaged port, and also a dead headphone jack or a microphone callers can't hear, when the fault is on that board.

Before booking, try another cable and plug, and check the port for lint with a torch. The A72 is water-resistant, so if it says moisture has been detected, let it dry fully and try again. This checklist for a Galaxy A that won't charge goes through the rest. If it still won't charge reliably, the charging port repair is £59, and I test charging, fast charging, the headphone jack, the microphone and a data connection before it goes back.

Galaxy A72 back cover replacement

The A72 has a plastic back, glued to the frame. It cracks at the corners and splits around the large camera bump after a drop, and on an IP67 phone a damaged back means the seal has gone too. I fit a genuine Samsung back cover in your phone's colour and seal it with new adhesive. It's £49. I can't promise the IP67 rating after any repair, so treat it as not water-resistant afterwards.

Is it worth repairing a Galaxy A72?

For a battery, often yes. The A72 was a £419 phone with a big screen and a big battery, and many are still going strong. Samsung ended security updates for it in 2025, so it no longer gets fixes for new security threats, and that's worth weighing if you bank or pay on it. A £59 battery gives a phone you like a lot more life for far less than a replacement. A Samsung screen at £139 is a harder call. This guide explains what the end of updates means, and this one weighs up every model.

Samsung Galaxy A72 Repair

Frequently asked questions

Can you replace the screen on a Galaxy A72?
Not at the moment. Its fingerprint reader sits under the screen and has to be calibrated with Samsung's equipment after a new screen, which isn't available outside Samsung's repair network for this model. Samsung's recommended price is £139.
How much does a Galaxy A72 battery replacement cost?
£59 by post, with a genuine Samsung battery and a 12-month warranty. Samsung's own price is £79.
My A72's headphone jack stopped working. Can you fix it?
Usually. The headphone jack is on the same board as the charging port and microphone, so the charging port repair replaces all three.
Will a new battery affect my fingerprint reader?
No. Only a new screen needs the fingerprint reader calibrating. I check it works before the phone goes back.
Will my A72 still be water-resistant after a repair?
I can't promise it. It's resealed with new adhesive, but any phone that's been opened can lose some of its original IP67 water resistance.
Does the A72 still get updates?
No. Samsung ended security updates for the A72 in 2025.

About this service

How does your mail-in repair service work?
Three steps: book and pay for your repair online, post your item to me using the packing instructions I email you, and I repair it, test it, and send it back tracked. You'll get updates as it moves through each stage.
What is your no-fix-no-fee promise?
Payment is taken upfront at booking. If I can't fix your item, there's no repair fee — I refund what you paid, less £4.99 return postage to send it back to you. Assessment bookings work differently: the £4.99 covers return postage and comes off the repair if you go ahead, but isn't refunded if you decide not to or it can't be repaired.
Do your repairs come with a warranty?
Yes. Every repair carries a 12-month workmanship warranty against the same fault returning. If it does, I'll put it right.
How long will my repair take?
Most repairs are completed within 1-3 working days of arrival, then posted back by tracked post. If a part needs ordering, I'll tell you as soon as I've diagnosed it and give you a realistic date. Diagnostic-led jobs take a little longer if I'm waiting on your approval of a quote.
How do I package my item safely to post it?
I send clear packing guidance when you book. In short: wrap the item well, use plenty of padding, and a sturdy box — the return leg is insured and tracked, and good packing on the way in protects your item too.
Where do I send my item?
Your postage address is included in the confirmation email after you book — you don't post anything until you've booked, so your item is always matched to your order.
Do you cover the whole UK?
Yes — I run a mail-in repair service, so you can send your item from anywhere in the UK. There's nothing local you need to find.
What if my item turns out to be unrepairable?
I'll tell you honestly and, where the fault allows, offer an alternative. If I can't fix it, there's no repair fee — I refund what you paid, less £4.99 return postage to send it back to you.
