Signs your Galaxy A53 needs a repair

  • Battery not lasting the day, or shutting down early
  • Phone warm while charging, or charging slowly
  • Charger loose, or charging only at an angle
  • Cracked or split back cover

A Samsung Galaxy A53 battery replacement costs £59 by post, a charging port £59 and a back cover £49, all with genuine Samsung parts and a 12-month warranty. Samsung's own price for an A53 battery is £79. I don't offer screen replacements on the A53, and the screen section below explains why, including what A53 owners have reported after screen repairs elsewhere.

The Galaxy A53 5G launched in April 2022 at £399 as Samsung's main mid-range phone that year. It has a 6.5-inch 120Hz Super AMOLED screen with an optical fingerprint reader underneath, a 5,000mAh battery, a plastic back and an IP67 water-resistance rating.

Which Galaxy A53 do I have?

The A53 was sold in the UK as a 5G phone, model number SM-A536B, shown in Settings > About phone. I'll ask for it when you book, along with your colour if you're booking a back cover. This guide shows where to find it.

Galaxy A53 screen replacement

The A53 reads your fingerprint through the screen, using an optical sensor mounted underneath the display. In a screen replacement that sensor is moved to the new screen, and Samsung's repair manuals for its newer under-screen fingerprint phones say it must be calibrated with Samsung's own equipment every time.

A53 owners have reported fingerprint readers failing after screen repairs elsewhere. The A53 isn't in Samsung's Self-Repair programme, so that calibration is only available through Samsung's own repair network. That's why I don't replace A53 screens. I'd rather tell you now than return a phone whose fingerprint reader may not work.

If your A53 screen is broken, Samsung's recommended price for a replacement is £144, and its repairers calibrate the fingerprint reader as part of the job. If you use an independent repairer, ask first whether they can calibrate the fingerprint reader, and what happens if it doesn't work afterwards. This guide explains the fingerprint problem.

Galaxy A53 battery replacement

Most A53s are now three or four years old, and the battery is usually the first thing to go. Look for a phone that needs a top-up by lunchtime, shuts down with charge showing, or gets warm on the charger. Samsung Members shows the battery's condition under Support > Phone diagnostics > Battery status, and this guide explains the result.

The A53 is glued front and back. For a battery, only the back comes off: I warm it until the adhesive gives, lift it away, release the battery from its own adhesive without bending it and fit a genuine Samsung battery. New adhesive seals the back, and charging is tested before the phone goes back. It's £59, against Samsung's £79. The screen and fingerprint sensor stay in place, and I check the fingerprint reader works before it goes back.

A new battery restores battery life. It won't make a slow A53 fast again, since lag is usually storage, apps or software. This guide to fast battery drain helps you work out which you've got. If the back is lifting away from the phone, stop charging it and contact me before posting.

Galaxy A53 charging port repair

The A53's USB-C port sits on a small separate charging board at the bottom of the phone, not on the main board. A worn, loose or damaged port is fixed by fitting a new genuine charging board, and on the A53 that part costs a little more than on the A3x models, which is why this repair is £59.

Try another cable and plug first, and check the port for lint with a torch. This checklist for a Galaxy A that won't charge covers the rest. I test charging, fast charging and a data connection before the phone goes back.

Galaxy A53 back cover replacement

The A53's back is plastic, glued to the frame. It's more likely to crack at a corner than shatter. I fit a genuine Samsung back cover in your phone's colour and seal it with new adhesive. It's £49. Its IP67 rating is something I can't promise after any repair: new adhesive seals the back, but an opened phone should be treated as not water-resistant.

Is it worth repairing a Galaxy A53?

For a battery or charging port, often yes, if you're happy with the phone. Samsung committed to five years of security updates from its 2022 launch, so the A53 has around a year of support left. A £59 repair can carry it through that and beyond, but it's worth knowing when the updates stop. This guide compares every Galaxy A model.

Frequently asked questions

Can you replace the screen on a Galaxy A53?
Not at the moment. The A53's under-screen fingerprint reader must be calibrated with Samsung's equipment after a new screen, and for this model that's only available through Samsung's repair network. Samsung's recommended price for an A53 screen is £144.
My A53 fingerprint stopped working after a screen replacement. Why?
A common reason is that the fingerprint sensor wasn't calibrated after the new screen was fitted, a step Samsung requires on its newer under-screen fingerprint phones. Samsung's own repair service can calibrate it.
How much does a Galaxy A53 battery replacement cost?
£59 by post, with a genuine Samsung battery and a 12-month warranty. Samsung's own price is £79.
Why is the A53 charging port dearer than the A33's?
The genuine A53 charging board costs more as a part, so the repair is £59 rather than £49.
Will a battery replacement affect my fingerprint reader?
No. Only a new screen needs the fingerprint reader calibrating. I check it works before the phone goes back.

About this service

How does your mail-in repair service work?
Three steps: book and pay for your repair online, post your item to me using the packing instructions I email you, and I repair it, test it, and send it back tracked. You'll get updates as it moves through each stage.
What is your no-fix-no-fee promise?
Payment is taken upfront at booking. If I can't fix your item, there's no repair fee — I refund what you paid, less £4.99 return postage to send it back to you. Assessment bookings work differently: the £4.99 covers return postage and comes off the repair if you go ahead, but isn't refunded if you decide not to or it can't be repaired.
Do your repairs come with a warranty?
Yes. Every repair carries a 12-month workmanship warranty against the same fault returning. If it does, I'll put it right.
How long will my repair take?
Most repairs are completed within 1-3 working days of arrival, then posted back by tracked post. If a part needs ordering, I'll tell you as soon as I've diagnosed it and give you a realistic date. Diagnostic-led jobs take a little longer if I'm waiting on your approval of a quote.
How do I package my item safely to post it?
I send clear packing guidance when you book. In short: wrap the item well, use plenty of padding, and a sturdy box — the return leg is insured and tracked, and good packing on the way in protects your item too.
Where do I send my item?
Your postage address is included in the confirmation email after you book — you don't post anything until you've booked, so your item is always matched to your order.
Do you cover the whole UK?
Yes — I run a mail-in repair service, so you can send your item from anywhere in the UK. There's nothing local you need to find.
What if my item turns out to be unrepairable?
I'll tell you honestly and, where the fault allows, offer an alternative. If I can't fix it, there's no repair fee — I refund what you paid, less £4.99 return postage to send it back to you.
