A Samsung Galaxy A55 screen replacement is coming soon, at an expected £119 with a genuine Samsung screen and the fingerprint reader calibrated; Samsung's own recommended price is £149. You can book the other repairs now: a battery is £59, a charging port £59 and back glass £59, all with genuine Samsung parts and a 12-month warranty.

The Galaxy A55 5G launched in March 2024 at £439 with an aluminium frame, Gorilla Glass Victus+ on the front and a glass back. It has a 6.6-inch 120Hz Super AMOLED screen, an optical fingerprint reader under the display, a 5,000mAh battery and an IP67 water-resistance rating.

Which Galaxy A55 do I have?

The A55 is sold in the UK as a 5G phone, model number SM-A556B, found in Settings > About phone. I'll ask for it when you book, and for your phone's colour if you're booking back glass. This guide shows where to find it.

Galaxy A55 screen replacement

If you're here about a cracked A55 screen, here's the straight answer on where it stands. The A55's fingerprint reader is an optical sensor beneath the display. It's a separate part, moved to the new screen during a replacement, and Samsung's repair manual for the A55 says it must be calibrated every time the screen is replaced. That calibration uses Samsung's Self Repair Assistant app and a set of Samsung calibration tools. Without it, the fingerprint reader may be unreliable or stop working.

The A55 is in Samsung's Self-Repair programme, so the calibration can be done outside Samsung's repair network with the right equipment. I'm setting that equipment up so I can replace A55 screens properly. When it's ready, the expected price is £119 with a genuine Samsung screen, £30 under Samsung's recommended £149. Plenty of repairers will fit an A55 screen today, some for less, and some with copy screens. Before you book anywhere, ask whether the screen is genuine and whether they calibrate the fingerprint reader afterwards.

If you need it fixed now, Samsung's repair service calibrates the fingerprint reader as part of the job. This guide explains the fingerprint problem in detail, and this guide compares screen prices across the range.

Slow fingerprint unlock on an undamaged screen? When the A55 launched, many owners found the fingerprint reader slow or unreliable. Many owners reported that Samsung's July 2024 update largely fixed it, so if your screen is intact, update the phone and re-register your fingerprints before assuming anything's broken.

Galaxy A55 battery replacement

Two years into daily use, an A55 battery has lost some of its capacity. Signs are a phone that needs charging before the evening, drops off with charge showing, or gets warm on the charger. Samsung Members shows the battery's condition under Support > Phone diagnostics > Battery status, and this guide explains the result.

To reach the A55's battery, I warm the glass back until the adhesive releases and lift it from the aluminium frame. The battery is glued as well, so it's eased out without bending, replaced with a genuine Samsung battery, and the back is resealed with new adhesive. Charging and the fingerprint reader are both checked before the phone goes back, and the screen and sensor aren't disturbed. It's £59, against Samsung's £79. A new battery restores battery life, not speed: if the phone has become laggy, this guide to fast battery drain will help you find the cause.

Galaxy A55 charging port repair

The A55's USB-C port is on a small separate charging board at the bottom of the phone. A worn, loose or damaged port is fixed by fitting a new genuine charging board, and the A55's board costs more than those on the A3x models, which is why this repair is £59.

Try another cable and plug first, and check the port for lint with a torch. This checklist for a Galaxy A that won't charge goes through the rest. I test charging, fast charging and a data connection before the phone goes back.

Galaxy A55 back glass replacement

The A55's glass back sits in an aluminium frame, and a drop onto a hard floor can crack it across even when the front survives. I remove the broken glass, clean the old adhesive from the frame, fit a genuine Samsung back in your phone's colour and seal it with new adhesive. It's £59. This guide to cracked Galaxy A backs explains which models have glass. The A55 is IP67-rated from the factory. After any repair the back is sealed with fresh adhesive, but I can't promise it keeps that rating, so treat it as not water-resistant.

Is it worth repairing a Galaxy A55?

Yes, in almost every case. Samsung committed to five years of security updates for the A55, into 2029, and it cost £439 new. A £59 battery or back is a small price for a phone with that much life left. This guide compares every Galaxy A model.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a Galaxy A55 screen replacement cost?
With me, it's coming soon at an expected £119, with a genuine Samsung screen and the fingerprint reader calibrated. Samsung's own recommended price is £149.
Will my fingerprint work after an A55 screen replacement?
Only if the fingerprint sensor is calibrated afterwards. Samsung's repair manual for the A55 requires it every time the screen is replaced. Ask any repairer whether they calibrate it before you book.
My A55 fingerprint unlock is slow but the screen is fine. Is it broken?
Probably not. Slow fingerprint unlock was widely reported on the A55 at launch, and many owners said Samsung's July 2024 update largely fixed it. Update the phone and re-register your fingerprints.
How much does a Galaxy A55 battery replacement cost?
£59 by post, with a genuine Samsung battery and a 12-month warranty. Samsung's own price is £79.
Will a battery or back glass replacement affect my fingerprint reader?
No. Only a new screen needs the fingerprint reader calibrating. I check it works before the phone goes back.
Will my A55 still be water-resistant after a repair?
I can't promise it. It's resealed with new adhesive, but any phone that's been opened can lose some of its original IP67 water resistance.

About this service

How does your mail-in repair service work?
Three steps: book and pay for your repair online, post your item to me using the packing instructions I email you, and I repair it, test it, and send it back tracked. You'll get updates as it moves through each stage.
What is your no-fix-no-fee promise?
Payment is taken upfront at booking. If I can't fix your item, there's no repair fee — I refund what you paid, less £4.99 return postage to send it back to you. Assessment bookings work differently: the £4.99 covers return postage and comes off the repair if you go ahead, but isn't refunded if you decide not to or it can't be repaired.
Do your repairs come with a warranty?
Yes. Every repair carries a 12-month workmanship warranty against the same fault returning. If it does, I'll put it right.
How long will my repair take?
Most repairs are completed within 1-3 working days of arrival, then posted back by tracked post. If a part needs ordering, I'll tell you as soon as I've diagnosed it and give you a realistic date. Diagnostic-led jobs take a little longer if I'm waiting on your approval of a quote.
How do I package my item safely to post it?
I send clear packing guidance when you book. In short: wrap the item well, use plenty of padding, and a sturdy box — the return leg is insured and tracked, and good packing on the way in protects your item too.
Where do I send my item?
Your postage address is included in the confirmation email after you book — you don't post anything until you've booked, so your item is always matched to your order.
Do you cover the whole UK?
Yes — I run a mail-in repair service, so you can send your item from anywhere in the UK. There's nothing local you need to find.
What if my item turns out to be unrepairable?
I'll tell you honestly and, where the fault allows, offer an alternative. If I can't fix it, there's no repair fee — I refund what you paid, less £4.99 return postage to send it back to you.
