Signs your Galaxy A33 needs a repair

  • Battery flat by the afternoon, or switching off with charge showing
  • Back cover lifting away from the phone (contact me before posting)
  • Charger loose, or charging only at an angle
  • Cracked or split back cover

A Samsung Galaxy A33 battery replacement costs £59 by post, a charging port £49 and a back cover £49, all with genuine Samsung parts and a 12-month warranty. Samsung's own price for an A33 battery is £79. I don't offer screen replacements on the A33, because of how its fingerprint reader works. The screen section below explains why, and where to go instead.

The Galaxy A33 5G came out in April 2022 at £329. It has a 6.4-inch 90Hz Super AMOLED screen with the fingerprint reader underneath it, a 5,000mAh battery, a glued plastic back and an IP67 water-resistance rating. At three or four years old, most A33s that need work need a battery.

Which Galaxy A33 do I have?

The A33 was sold in the UK as a 5G phone, model number SM-A336B, which you'll find in Settings > About phone. I'll ask for it when you book, along with your phone's colour for a back cover. This guide shows where to find it.

Galaxy A33 screen replacement

The A33's fingerprint reader is an optical sensor that sits under the screen and reads your fingerprint through the display. It's a separate part, moved from the old screen to the new one during a replacement. Samsung's repair manuals for its newer under-screen fingerprint phones say the sensor has to be calibrated with Samsung's own equipment every time the screen is replaced, or it may not read fingerprints properly.

The A33 isn't part of Samsung's Self-Repair programme, so that calibration isn't available outside Samsung's own repair network. That's why I don't replace A33 screens. I'd rather tell you here than send your phone back with a fingerprint reader that may not work.

If your A33 screen is broken, Samsung's recommended price for a replacement is £134, and its repair service calibrates the fingerprint reader as part of the job. If you'd rather use an independent repairer, ask before booking whether they can calibrate the fingerprint reader afterwards, and what happens if it doesn't work. This guide explains the fingerprint problem in more detail.

Galaxy A33 battery replacement

After three or four years of charging, most A33 batteries hold well under what they did when new. The signs are a phone that needs charging twice a day, shuts down with charge showing, or gets hot on the charger. You can check its condition in Samsung Members under Support > Phone diagnostics > Battery status, and this guide explains the result.

On the A33 the plastic back and the battery are both glued. I soften the back's adhesive with heat, lift it off and work the battery out without bending it, then fit a genuine Samsung battery and reseal the back with new adhesive. Charging is tested before it goes back. It's £59, against Samsung's £79. The battery sits behind the screen assembly, so changing it doesn't touch the screen or the fingerprint sensor, and I check the fingerprint reader works before the phone goes back.

A new battery restores battery life. It won't make an older A33 feel faster, because lag is usually down to storage, apps or software. This guide to fast battery drain helps you tell which you've got.

If the back is lifting, stop and contact me first. A33 owners have reported the back cover lifting away from the phone, and it's often caused by a battery that has started to swell. Don't keep charging it, and contact me before posting it, so we can talk about the safest way to deal with it.

Galaxy A33 charging port repair

The A33's USB-C port sits on a small separate charging board at the bottom of the phone, not soldered to the main board. A worn, loose or damaged port is fixed by fitting a new genuine charging board.

Before booking, try another cable and plug, and check the port for lint with a torch: years of pocket fluff pack down and stop the plug seating. This checklist for a Galaxy A that won't charge goes through the rest. If it still won't charge reliably, the charging port repair is £49, and I test charging, fast charging and a data connection before it goes back.

Galaxy A33 back cover replacement

The A33 has a plastic back, glued to the frame. It's more likely to crack or split than shatter, and a damaged back lets dust and moisture in. I fit a genuine Samsung back cover in your phone's colour and seal it with new adhesive. It's £49. The A33 left the factory rated IP67. I reseal every back with new adhesive, but once a phone has been opened I can't promise that rating still holds, so treat it as not water-resistant after any repair.

Is it worth repairing a Galaxy A33?

For a battery, often yes. The A33 was a £329 phone, and a £59 battery can give it another couple of years of use. Samsung committed to five years of security updates from its 2022 launch, so it has around a year of support left, and that's worth weighing up. This guide compares every Galaxy A model.

Frequently asked questions

Can you replace the screen on a Galaxy A33?
Not at the moment. The A33's fingerprint reader sits under the screen and has to be calibrated with Samsung's equipment after a new screen, which isn't available outside Samsung's repair network for this model. Samsung's recommended price for an A33 screen is £134.
My A33's back cover is lifting. What does that mean?
It's often a sign the battery has started to swell. Stop charging it and contact me before posting it.
How much does a Galaxy A33 battery replacement cost?
£59 by post, with a genuine Samsung battery and a 12-month warranty. Samsung's own price is £79.
Will a new battery affect my fingerprint reader?
No. The fingerprint problem only applies to a new screen. A battery, charging port or back cover replacement leaves the screen and fingerprint sensor where they are, and I check the fingerprint reader before the phone goes back.
Will my A33 still be water-resistant after a repair?
I can't promise it. It's resealed with new adhesive, but any phone that's been opened can lose some of its original IP67 water resistance.
Is it worth putting a new battery in an A33?
If you're happy with the phone, usually. It costs far less than a new phone, though the A33 is nearing the end of its Samsung security updates.

About this service

How does your mail-in repair service work?
Three steps: book and pay for your repair online, post your item to me using the packing instructions I email you, and I repair it, test it, and send it back tracked. You'll get updates as it moves through each stage.
What is your no-fix-no-fee promise?
Payment is taken upfront at booking. If I can't fix your item, there's no repair fee — I refund what you paid, less £4.99 return postage to send it back to you. Assessment bookings work differently: the £4.99 covers return postage and comes off the repair if you go ahead, but isn't refunded if you decide not to or it can't be repaired.
Do your repairs come with a warranty?
Yes. Every repair carries a 12-month workmanship warranty against the same fault returning. If it does, I'll put it right.
How long will my repair take?
Most repairs are completed within 1-3 working days of arrival, then posted back by tracked post. If a part needs ordering, I'll tell you as soon as I've diagnosed it and give you a realistic date. Diagnostic-led jobs take a little longer if I'm waiting on your approval of a quote.
How do I package my item safely to post it?
I send clear packing guidance when you book. In short: wrap the item well, use plenty of padding, and a sturdy box — the return leg is insured and tracked, and good packing on the way in protects your item too.
Where do I send my item?
Your postage address is included in the confirmation email after you book — you don't post anything until you've booked, so your item is always matched to your order.
Do you cover the whole UK?
Yes — I run a mail-in repair service, so you can send your item from anywhere in the UK. There's nothing local you need to find.
What if my item turns out to be unrepairable?
I'll tell you honestly and, where the fault allows, offer an alternative. If I can't fix it, there's no repair fee — I refund what you paid, less £4.99 return postage to send it back to you.
