A Samsung Galaxy A16 screen replacement costs £79 by post, with a genuine Samsung screen and a 12-month warranty. A battery is £49, a charging port £49 and a back cover £39. Samsung's own recommended price for an A16 screen is £119, and £79 for a battery.

The Galaxy A16 launched in the UK in November 2024 in two versions, the Galaxy A16 and the A16 5G. Both have a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED screen, a 5,000mAh battery, a plastic back, an IP54 splash-resistance rating and the fingerprint reader in the power key. Samsung committed to six years of Android and security updates for the A16, which is a long time for a budget phone, and it makes the A16 well worth keeping going.

Which Galaxy A16 do I have?

Go to Settings > About phone and check the model number. SM-A165F is the 4G Galaxy A16 and SM-A166B is the A16 5G. They look almost identical, but they take different screens and charging boards, so I need the model number when you book. I'll also ask for your phone's colour if you're booking a back cover, because genuine backs are colour-matched. This guide shows you where to find it.

Galaxy A16 screen replacement

The A16's 6.7-inch AMOLED panel is large for a budget phone, and big screens take the brunt of drops. When the glass cracks, the panel underneath often goes with it: lines, green or black patches, or a screen that stays black while the phone rings. Sometimes the picture is fine but touch stops working in one area.

I fit a genuine Samsung screen for your version, supplied as a service part already fitted in its frame. Copy screens for the A16 sell for a fraction of the price, and some use an LCD panel in place of AMOLED, which gives a dimmer, flatter picture. Here's how to tell the difference.

Because the A16's fingerprint reader is in the power key, a new screen doesn't affect it. Before your phone goes back I test touch across the whole screen, the display, brightness, the front camera and the proximity sensor, and check the fingerprint reader still unlocks the phone.

It's £79. Samsung's recommended price for an A16 screen is £119, and this guide compares screen prices for every Galaxy A. If the glass is cracked but everything still works, it's worth doing soon: cracks spread, and pressure on broken glass can damage the display underneath.

Galaxy A16 battery replacement

Every lithium battery loses capacity with age and charge cycles. On the A16 that shows up as a phone that won't last the day, drops from 20% to off, or only works on the charger. You can check its condition in Samsung Members under Support > Phone diagnostics > Battery status, and this guide explains what it tells you.

On the A16, the 5,000mAh battery sits under a plastic back, and both are glued. I warm the back to lift it cleanly, then ease the battery out of its adhesive slowly, because a bent lithium cell is a hazard. A genuine Samsung battery goes in, the back is sealed down with new adhesive, and charging is tested before it goes back. It's £49, against Samsung's £79.

A new battery brings back battery life. It won't make a slow or laggy phone faster; that's usually storage, apps or software. This guide to fast battery drain helps you tell which you've got.

Galaxy A16 charging port repair

On the A16, the USB-C port isn't soldered to the main board. It's on a small separate charging board at the bottom of the phone, and the 4G and 5G use different boards. A worn, loose or damaged port is fixed by fitting a new genuine charging board for your version.

Before booking, rule out the simple causes: try another cable and plug, and look in the port with a torch for pocket lint, which packs down over time and stops the plug going in fully. This checklist for a Galaxy A that won't charge goes through each step. If it still won't charge reliably, the charging port repair is £49, and I test charging, fast charging and a data connection before it goes back.

Galaxy A16 back cover replacement

The A16 has a glued plastic back. It's less likely to shatter than glass, but it can crack at the corners or split after a drop. I replace it with a genuine Samsung back cover in your phone's colour and seal it with new adhesive. It's £39. The A16 is rated IP54, which means splash-resistant rather than waterproof, and I can't promise it keeps that rating once it's been opened.

Is it worth repairing a Galaxy A16?

Usually, yes. The A16 is recent, it has years of updates ahead of it, and a £49 battery or £79 screen is a fraction of the £169 (4G) or £199 (5G) it launched at. If your A16 has several faults at once, add up the repairs and compare. This guide goes through every Galaxy A model.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a Galaxy A16 screen replacement cost?
£79 by post, with a genuine Samsung screen and a 12-month warranty. Samsung's own recommended price for an A16 screen is £119.
Will my fingerprint still work after a new screen?
Yes. The A16's fingerprint reader is in the power key, not under the screen, so a screen replacement doesn't affect it.
Is there a difference between the A16 and A16 5G for repairs?
The screens and charging boards are different, so I need your model number when you book. SM-A165F is the 4G and SM-A166B is the 5G.
Can I replace the A16 battery myself?
The A16 is in Samsung's Self-Repair programme, which sells genuine parts with a repair guide. The back and battery are both glued, so it needs heat, care and new adhesive to do properly.
Is it worth repairing an A16 with a cracked screen?
In most cases, yes. The A16 has years of Samsung updates ahead of it, and £79 for a genuine screen is well under the cost of a new phone.

About this service

How does your mail-in repair service work?
Three steps: book and pay for your repair online, post your item to me using the packing instructions I email you, and I repair it, test it, and send it back tracked. You'll get updates as it moves through each stage.
What is your no-fix-no-fee promise?
Payment is taken upfront at booking. If I can't fix your item, there's no repair fee — I refund what you paid, less £4.99 return postage to send it back to you. Assessment bookings work differently: the £4.99 covers return postage and comes off the repair if you go ahead, but isn't refunded if you decide not to or it can't be repaired.
Do your repairs come with a warranty?
Yes. Every repair carries a 12-month workmanship warranty against the same fault returning. If it does, I'll put it right.
How long will my repair take?
Most repairs are completed within 1-3 working days of arrival, then posted back by tracked post. If a part needs ordering, I'll tell you as soon as I've diagnosed it and give you a realistic date. Diagnostic-led jobs take a little longer if I'm waiting on your approval of a quote.
How do I package my item safely to post it?
I send clear packing guidance when you book. In short: wrap the item well, use plenty of padding, and a sturdy box — the return leg is insured and tracked, and good packing on the way in protects your item too.
Where do I send my item?
Your postage address is included in the confirmation email after you book — you don't post anything until you've booked, so your item is always matched to your order.
Do you cover the whole UK?
Yes — I run a mail-in repair service, so you can send your item from anywhere in the UK. There's nothing local you need to find.
What if my item turns out to be unrepairable?
I'll tell you honestly and, where the fault allows, offer an alternative. If I can't fix it, there's no repair fee — I refund what you paid, less £4.99 return postage to send it back to you.
