Signs your Galaxy A05s needs a repair

  • Cracked glass, lines or a black screen with the phone still ringing
  • Battery going flat by mid-afternoon, or switching off with charge showing
  • Charger loose, or charging only when the cable is held
  • Headphones or the microphone not working
  • Cracked or split back cover

A Samsung Galaxy A05s screen replacement costs £79 by post, with a genuine Samsung screen and a 12-month warranty. A battery is £49, a charging port £49 and a back cover £39. Samsung's own recommended price for an A05s screen is £114, and £79 for a battery.

The Galaxy A05s is Samsung's entry-level phone from late 2023. It has a large 6.7-inch LCD screen with a sharp full HD picture, a 5,000mAh battery with 25W fast charging, a plastic back, a headphone jack and a fingerprint reader built into the power key. It's a phone people buy to last, and the repairs it needs are the everyday ones: a dropped screen, a battery that no longer gets through the day, a port that's worn loose.

Which Galaxy A05s do I have?

Go to Settings > About phone and check the model number. The A05s sold in the UK is SM-A057G, and you may also see SM-A057F on imported phones; both take the same parts. A /DS or /DSN on the end just means dual SIM. I'll ask for the model number when you book, and your phone's colour if you're booking a back cover. This guide shows where to find it.

Galaxy A05s screen replacement

The A05s uses an LCD panel bonded to the front glass, which is why a drop can leave you with cracked glass and a working picture, or a picture that's failed behind glass that looks fine: black ink-like patches, coloured lines, flicker, or a black screen while the phone still rings. Touch can also stop working along a crack.

I fit a genuine Samsung screen, supplied as a service part already fitted in its frame. Copy screens for the A05s are very cheap, and the difference usually shows in a dimmer, lower-resolution picture and less accurate touch. This guide explains how to tell a genuine screen from a copy.

The fingerprint reader is in the power key, so a new screen doesn't affect it. Before the phone goes back, I test touch across the whole screen, the display and brightness, the front camera, the earpiece and the proximity sensor, and check the fingerprint reader unlocks the phone.

It's £79. Samsung's recommended price for an A05s screen is £114, and this guide compares screen prices across the Galaxy A range. The A05s was an inexpensive phone, so it's worth weighing a screen against what a newer phone would cost you; the section on whether it's worth repairing below helps.

Galaxy A05s battery replacement

Two or three years of daily charging takes its toll on any battery. On an A05s you'll notice it as a phone that's flat by teatime, jumps from 20% to off, or only stays on while it's plugged in. You can check its condition in Samsung Members under Support > Phone diagnostics > Battery status. This guide explains what the result means.

I lift the plastic back, ease out the glued-in battery without bending it, and fit a genuine Samsung 5,000mAh battery. Charging, including fast charging, is tested before the phone goes back. It's £49, against Samsung's £79. Here's why a genuine battery matters.

A new battery restores battery life. It won't make a slow phone quicker: on an entry-level phone like the A05s, lag is usually down to full storage, apps or software. This guide to fast battery drain helps you work out which you've got.

Galaxy A05s charging port repair

The A05s's USB-C port isn't soldered to the main board. It sits on a small charging board at the bottom of the phone, and on the A05s that board also carries the headphone jack and the microphone. So a genuine replacement charging board fixes a worn or damaged port, and it also fixes a dead headphone jack or a microphone callers can't hear, when the fault is on that board.

Try the simple things first: another cable and plug, and a look into the port with a torch. Pocket lint packs down into a hard layer and stops the plug going in fully. This checklist for a Galaxy A that won't charge goes through each step.

If it still won't charge reliably, the charging port repair is £49. I test charging, fast charging, the headphone jack, the microphone and a data connection before the phone goes back.

Galaxy A05s back cover replacement

The A05s has a plastic back. It's more likely to crack at a corner or split around the camera than shatter, but a damaged back lets dust and grit in. I replace it with a genuine Samsung back cover in your phone's colour. It's £39. The A05s has no water-resistance rating, so there's no seal to lose, but keep it away from water all the same.

Is it worth repairing a Galaxy A05s?

For a battery or charging port, usually yes: £49 keeps a working phone going for far less than a replacement. The A05s is still on Samsung's list of phones that get security updates, though it isn't getting any more major Android versions. A £79 screen is a bigger share of what an A05s is worth, so compare it with the price of a newer budget phone before you decide. This guide weighs up every Galaxy A model.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a Galaxy A05s screen replacement cost?
£79 by post, with a genuine Samsung screen and a 12-month warranty. Samsung's own recommended price is £114.
My A05s headphone jack stopped working. Can you fix it?
Usually, yes. On the A05s the headphone jack is on the same small board as the charging port and microphone, so the charging port repair replaces all three. I check the fault when the phone arrives and tell you if it's anything else.
Will my fingerprint still work after a new screen?
Yes. The A05s's fingerprint reader is in the power key, not under the screen, so a screen replacement doesn't affect it.
Is the A05s the same as the A05?
No. The A05 is a different, cheaper model with a lower-resolution screen, and it takes different parts. Check the model number in Settings > About phone: the A05s starts SM-A057.
Is it worth putting a new battery in an A05s?
If you're happy with the phone and the battery is the problem, yes. At £49 it costs far less than a new phone, and the A05s still gets Samsung's security updates.
My phone's back is lifting. What should I do?
Stop charging it and contact me before posting it. A back that's lifting is often caused by a swollen battery, which needs handling carefully.

About this service

How does your mail-in repair service work?
Three steps: book and pay for your repair online, post your item to me using the packing instructions I email you, and I repair it, test it, and send it back tracked. You'll get updates as it moves through each stage.
What is your no-fix-no-fee promise?
Payment is taken upfront at booking. If I can't fix your item, there's no repair fee — I refund what you paid, less £4.99 return postage to send it back to you. Assessment bookings work differently: the £4.99 covers return postage and comes off the repair if you go ahead, but isn't refunded if you decide not to or it can't be repaired.
Do your repairs come with a warranty?
Yes. Every repair carries a 12-month workmanship warranty against the same fault returning. If it does, I'll put it right.
How long will my repair take?
Most repairs are completed within 1-3 working days of arrival, then posted back by tracked post. If a part needs ordering, I'll tell you as soon as I've diagnosed it and give you a realistic date. Diagnostic-led jobs take a little longer if I'm waiting on your approval of a quote.
How do I package my item safely to post it?
I send clear packing guidance when you book. In short: wrap the item well, use plenty of padding, and a sturdy box — the return leg is insured and tracked, and good packing on the way in protects your item too.
Where do I send my item?
Your postage address is included in the confirmation email after you book — you don't post anything until you've booked, so your item is always matched to your order.
Do you cover the whole UK?
Yes — I run a mail-in repair service, so you can send your item from anywhere in the UK. There's nothing local you need to find.
What if my item turns out to be unrepairable?
I'll tell you honestly and, where the fault allows, offer an alternative. If I can't fix it, there's no repair fee — I refund what you paid, less £4.99 return postage to send it back to you.
