Signs your Galaxy A36 needs a repair

  • Cracked or shattered back glass
  • Charger loose, or fast charging no longer working
  • Callers can't hear you (the main microphone shares the charging board)
  • Battery draining faster than it did
  • Cracked screen (coming soon: see the screen section)

A Samsung Galaxy A36 battery replacement costs £59 by post, a charging port £49 and back glass £49, all with genuine Samsung parts and a 12-month warranty. Screen replacement on the A36 is coming soon, at an expected £119 with a genuine Samsung screen. Samsung's own prices are £139 for an A36 screen and £79 for a battery.

The Galaxy A36 5G launched in March 2025 at £399. It has a 6.7-inch 120Hz Super AMOLED screen, Gorilla Glass Victus+ on the front and back, an optical fingerprint reader under the display, a 5,000mAh battery with 45W fast charging, and an IP67 water-resistance rating. Samsung promises six years of Android and security updates, to 2031, so it's a phone worth keeping going.

Which Galaxy A36 do I have?

The A36 is sold in the UK as a 5G phone, model number SM-A366B, shown in Settings > About phone. I'll ask for it when you book, and for your phone's colour if you're booking back glass. This guide shows where to find it.

Galaxy A36 screen replacement

The A36's fingerprint reader is an optical sensor under the screen. Samsung's own repair manual for the A36 says that whenever the screen is replaced, that sensor must be calibrated. The sensor is moved to the new screen, then calibrated using Samsung's Self Repair Assistant app and a set of calibration tools. Without it, the fingerprint reader may misread or stop working.

The A36 is in Samsung's Self-Repair programme, so that calibration can be done outside Samsung's own repair network. I'm setting up the equipment so I can offer A36 screens with the fingerprint reader calibrated properly. When it's ready, the expected price is £119 with a genuine Samsung screen, against Samsung's recommended £139.

Until then, Samsung's repair service calibrates the fingerprint reader as part of a screen replacement. If you use an independent repairer, ask first whether they calibrate it afterwards. This guide explains the fingerprint problem.

Galaxy A36 charging port repair

The A36's USB-C port sits on a small separate charging board at the bottom of the phone, and on the A36 that board also carries the main microphone. So a new charging board fixes a loose or damaged port, and it also fixes a main microphone that callers can't hear, when the fault is on that board. It's a board swap, not soldering on the main board.

The A36 supports 45W fast charging, but only with a charger and cable that support it. If fast charging has stopped working, try the original cable and a 45W-capable charger before assuming the port has failed, and check the port for lint with a torch. This checklist for a Galaxy A that won't charge covers the other checks.

If it's still faulty, the charging port repair is £49 with a genuine Samsung charging board. I test charging, fast charging, the microphone and a data connection before the phone goes back.

Galaxy A36 back glass replacement

The A36's back is Gorilla Glass Victus+, tough but still glass, and a flat landing on a hard floor can crack it across. I remove the broken glass, clean the old adhesive from the frame, fit a genuine Samsung back in your phone's colour and seal it with new adhesive. It's £49. This guide to cracked Galaxy A backs explains which models have glass. Any repair on the A36 means breaking its factory IP67 seal. New adhesive goes on every time, but I can't promise the original water resistance afterwards.

Galaxy A36 battery replacement

The A36 is new enough that its battery is usually still healthy, so if it's draining fast, check apps, settings and updates first with this guide to fast battery drain. Samsung Members shows the battery's condition under Support > Phone diagnostics > Battery status, and this guide explains the result.

When the battery does need replacing, the Victus+ back comes off first, warmed until its adhesive releases. The battery is freed from its own adhesive without flexing it, a genuine Samsung battery goes in, and the back is sealed with fresh adhesive. I test charging, including fast charging, and check the fingerprint reader before it goes back; the screen and sensor aren't disturbed. It's £59, against Samsung's £79.

Is it worth repairing a Galaxy A36?

Almost always. With updates promised to 2031 and a £399 launch price, a £49 back or port is an easy decision. If your A36 is still inside Samsung's warranty and the fault isn't damage, go to Samsung first. This guide compares every Galaxy A model.

Frequently asked questions

How much will a Galaxy A36 screen replacement cost?
It's coming soon at an expected £119, with a genuine Samsung screen and the fingerprint reader calibrated. Samsung's own recommended price is £139.
Why can't I book an A36 screen yet?
Samsung's repair manual for the A36 says the under-screen fingerprint sensor must be calibrated whenever the screen is replaced. I'm setting up Samsung's calibration equipment, and I'll take screen bookings once it's in place.
People can't hear me on calls. Is that the charging port?
It can be. On the A36 the main microphone is on the same small board as the charging port, so the charging port repair replaces both. Check the microphone opening isn't blocked first.
My A36 has stopped fast charging. Is the port broken?
Not necessarily. 45W fast charging needs a compatible charger and cable. Try those first, then check the port for lint. If it's still slow, the charging port repair is £49.
My A36 is still under Samsung's warranty. Should I use you?
If the fault isn't damage, go to Samsung first, because a repair by anyone else ends Samsung's warranty. Cracked glass is accidental damage, which Samsung's warranty doesn't cover.

About this service

How does your mail-in repair service work?
Three steps: book and pay for your repair online, post your item to me using the packing instructions I email you, and I repair it, test it, and send it back tracked. You'll get updates as it moves through each stage.
What is your no-fix-no-fee promise?
Payment is taken upfront at booking. If I can't fix your item, there's no repair fee — I refund what you paid, less £4.99 return postage to send it back to you. Assessment bookings work differently: the £4.99 covers return postage and comes off the repair if you go ahead, but isn't refunded if you decide not to or it can't be repaired.
Do your repairs come with a warranty?
Yes. Every repair carries a 12-month workmanship warranty against the same fault returning. If it does, I'll put it right.
How long will my repair take?
Most repairs are completed within 1-3 working days of arrival, then posted back by tracked post. If a part needs ordering, I'll tell you as soon as I've diagnosed it and give you a realistic date. Diagnostic-led jobs take a little longer if I'm waiting on your approval of a quote.
How do I package my item safely to post it?
I send clear packing guidance when you book. In short: wrap the item well, use plenty of padding, and a sturdy box — the return leg is insured and tracked, and good packing on the way in protects your item too.
Where do I send my item?
Your postage address is included in the confirmation email after you book — you don't post anything until you've booked, so your item is always matched to your order.
Do you cover the whole UK?
Yes — I run a mail-in repair service, so you can send your item from anywhere in the UK. There's nothing local you need to find.
What if my item turns out to be unrepairable?
I'll tell you honestly and, where the fault allows, offer an alternative. If I can't fix it, there's no repair fee — I refund what you paid, less £4.99 return postage to send it back to you.
