Signs you need this repair

  • "No signal" on the TV, with the console switched on
  • The picture flickers, cuts out or drops out when the cable moves
  • The HDMI port is loose, bent or physically damaged
  • The HDMI plug won't go in, or won't stay in
  • It started after the cable was yanked or the console fell

An Xbox Series X|S HDMI port repair is for a console that powers on but gives you nothing on screen: "no signal" on the TV, a picture that flickers or cuts out, or a port that's loose or damaged. The HDMI port takes a lot of strain. A cable caught on a foot, a console pulled forward on a shelf, or a Series X that topples over from standing upright can crack the port's solder joints or bend its pins.

Before booking, it's worth ruling out the simple causes: the TV input, the cable and the console's display settings. My guide to an Xbox with no signal, below, covers those free checks. If they don't help, and especially if the port is loose or the picture changes when you touch the cable, the port is the likely fault.

I remove the damaged port and solder a new one in its place, check the joints under magnification, then test the picture and sound. Once it's back together, I test the console for an hour running a demanding game before it's posted back. The £75 includes parts and tracked return postage, and the work is covered by a 12-month warranty.

This repair is for the Xbox Series X and Series S. Behind the port is a chip that processes the HDMI signal. If that chip has failed rather than the port, I don't replace it, so it's no fix, no fee: I refund what you paid, less return postage. If the board's pads or tracks under the port are damaged, I'll quote before doing any work.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know it's the HDMI port?
If the console turns on, the TV says "no signal", and a different cable and TV input don't help, the port is the usual cause, especially if it's loose or the picture changes when you move the cable. My guide to an Xbox with no signal, below, covers the free checks first.
Could it be a setting rather than the port?
Sometimes. A resolution or refresh rate your TV can't handle can give a black screen. The Series X can be started in a low-resolution mode to rule that out. The guide below explains how.
What if it's the HDMI chip, not the port?
If the chip behind the port has failed, I don't replace it, so it's no fix, no fee: I refund what you paid, less return postage.
Do you repair the Xbox Series S HDMI port?
Yes. The Series X and Series S are the same price.
Will I lose my games or saves?
No. The repair is to the HDMI port only. Your storage, games and saves aren't touched.
How do you test it?
I check picture and sound on a TV, then the console runs a demanding game for an hour on my bench before it's posted back.
How can I stop it happening again?
Keep a little slack in the HDMI cable, don't let the console hang off a shelf edge, and if your Series X stands upright, make sure it can't be knocked over. My guide to protecting your Xbox HDMI port, below, has more.

About this service

How does your mail-in repair service work?
Three steps: book and pay for your repair online, post your item to me using the packing instructions I email you, and I repair it, test it, and send it back tracked. You'll get updates as it moves through each stage.
What is your no-fix-no-fee promise?
Payment is taken upfront at booking. If I can't fix your item, there's no repair fee — I refund what you paid, less £4.99 return postage to send it back to you. Assessment bookings work differently: the £4.99 covers return postage and comes off the repair if you go ahead, but isn't refunded if you decide not to or it can't be repaired.
Do your repairs come with a warranty?
Yes. Every repair carries a 12-month workmanship warranty against the same fault returning. If it does, I'll put it right.
How long will my repair take?
Most repairs are completed within 1-3 working days of arrival, then posted back by tracked post. If a part needs ordering, I'll tell you as soon as I've diagnosed it and give you a realistic date. Diagnostic-led jobs take a little longer if I'm waiting on your approval of a quote.
How do I package my item safely to post it?
I send clear packing guidance when you book. In short: wrap the item well, use plenty of padding, and a sturdy box — the return leg is insured and tracked, and good packing on the way in protects your item too.
Where do I send my item?
Your postage address is included in the confirmation email after you book — you don't post anything until you've booked, so your item is always matched to your order.
Do you cover the whole UK?
Yes — I run a mail-in repair service, so you can send your item from anywhere in the UK. There's nothing local you need to find.
What if my item turns out to be unrepairable?
I'll tell you honestly and, where the fault allows, offer an alternative. If I can't fix it, there's no repair fee — I refund what you paid, less £4.99 return postage to send it back to you.
