An HDMI port repair is one of the most common Xbox Series X|S repairs, and the prices you'll see vary a lot, from well under £50 to around £80 or more. The headline figure only tells part of the story. Here's what to expect in the UK, and what to check.
What independent repairers charge
For an Xbox Series X|S HDMI port replacement, most independent UK repairers charge somewhere between about £45 and £80. Some include postage both ways, some only return postage, and some are walk-in only.
My price is £75 all-in for the Series X or Series S. That includes a new port, tracked return postage, a picture and sound test, and an hour's test running a demanding game. The work is covered by a 12-month warranty. You pay to post the console to me.
What's included matters as much as the price
- Postage. A Series X is a heavy parcel. Check whether return postage is included.
- Testing. A port repair should be tested for picture and sound, then under a real load, not just switched on.
- Warranty. Warranties range from a month to a year or more.
- What happens if it isn't the port. Some repairers keep a diagnostic or inspection fee. With me, if the fault is the HDMI chip behind the port, it's no fix, no fee: I refund what you paid, less return postage.
- Damaged pads. If a port was ripped out hard, the pads underneath can be damaged. Ask how that's handled. I quote before doing any extra work.
What can change the price
The HDMI chip. If the chip behind the port has failed, it's a different, more delicate repair. I don't replace the chip. I explain the difference in Xbox HDMI port or HDMI chip?
Board damage. A port that was torn out with force can lift the pads it was soldered to. That takes extra work, and I quote for it first.
A previous repair attempt. A port that has been replaced badly before, with excess solder or lifted pads, takes longer to put right.
Is it worth repairing?
Almost always. An HDMI port repair costs a small fraction of a new console, and you keep your console, games and saves.
Before you pay for anything
Rule out the free fixes first: the TV input, another cable, a proper restart and low-resolution mode. Xbox no signal: what to check walks through them.
Common questions
Why do some repairers charge so much less?
Some prices don't include postage, testing or a warranty, and some are introductory offers. Compare the whole package, not just the headline figure.
Is the Series S cheaper to repair than the Series X?
With me, they're the same price. The HDMI port repair is much the same job on both.
Can I replace the HDMI port myself?
It's possible, but it's a demanding soldering job. The port has many small pins close together, and the board has several layers. Too much heat, or too little, can lift pads or leave weak joints. A failed DIY attempt usually makes the professional repair harder and more expensive.
How long does a new HDMI port last?
With sensible cable care, a properly fitted port should last as long as the original did, or longer. How to protect your Xbox HDMI port covers the simple habits that prevent the damage in the first place.
My recommendation
Expect to pay around £45 to £80 for an Xbox HDMI port repair, and compare postage, testing, warranty and what happens if it isn't the port. My Xbox Series X|S HDMI port repair is £75 all-in with a 12-month warranty. When you're ready, how to pack an Xbox for posting will help it arrive safely.
