A Switch charging port replacement costs £65 with me, and that's the same price for the original Switch, the OLED and the Lite. It includes the port, the soldering work, testing and an insured, tracked return. If the fault turns out to be a chip behind the port rather than the port itself, that's a board repair, which starts with a £4.99 assessment.
The price, by model
- Nintendo Switch (original V1 and the 2019 revised model): £65
- Nintendo Switch OLED: £65
- Nintendo Switch Lite: £65
The Switch 2 has two USB-C ports and is priced separately. See my guide to a Switch 2 that isn't charging for that one.
Not sure which model you have? The model number is on the back of the console: HAC-001 for the original, HAC-001(-01) for the 2019 revision, HEG-001 for the OLED and HDH-001 for the Lite.
What's included in the £65
- Removing the old port from the main board.
- Fitting and soldering a replacement USB-C port.
- Testing charging, and dock output on the original and OLED.
- Insured, tracked return postage.
- A 12-month warranty on the repair.
You pay to post the console to me. It's no fix, no fee: if I can't repair it, I refund what you paid, less return postage.
Why it isn't a quick part swap
On every Switch model, the USB-C port is soldered directly to the main board. There's no plug-in connector. Replacing it means stripping the console down to the board, removing the old port with hot air, cleaning the pads, then fitting and soldering the new one. It's careful work, because the nearby components are small and easy to disturb.
That's why prices for this job vary. Across independent repairers, a charging port generally sits somewhere around £55 to £80.
What does Nintendo charge?
Nintendo UK caps its out-of-warranty repair prices. Its price list (effective 1 October 2021, including tax) gives maximum prices of:
- Switch OLED: £190.50
- Switch: £120
- Switch Lite: £108
Those caps cover faults including no power and battery problems. Nintendo's list also says the maximum price applies "when the item is swapped with a replacement or re-manufactured product". Save data lives on the console's own storage, so a swapped console comes back without it unless you've backed it up. Save Data Cloud needs a Nintendo Switch Online membership, and not every game supports it.
Nintendo says a repair "might take up to 10 working days". If your Switch is still under Nintendo's warranty and hasn't been damaged, going to Nintendo first is the honest advice. My guide to Nintendo repair vs an independent repairer goes through the trade-offs.
Port fault or chip fault?
This is the most important question, because the answer changes the price.
Signs it's the port
- It only charges at a certain angle.
- The plug feels loose or falls out easily.
- The port is visibly damaged, bent or has been forced.
- Charging cuts in and out when the cable is moved.
Those point at the charging port repair, at the fixed £65.
Signs it's a chip
- It's completely dead, with no reaction to any charger.
- It stopped charging straight after using a new third-party dock or cheap charger.
- It charges fine but won't show a picture on the TV.
Behind the port sit the M92T36 (USB-C power delivery), the BQ24193 (battery charging) and the PI3USB (video to the dock). Third-party docks and cheap chargers are a well-known cause of M92T36 failure. These go through my board fault assessment: £4.99, with repairs from £89. I send a quote first, and nothing is done until you approve it. The £4.99 comes off the repair if you go ahead, but isn't refunded if you decline or it can't be repaired.
If you're unsure, work through my Switch not charging checks first. Lint in the port or a faulty cable can look a lot like a failed port.
Sending it in
- Book and pay online.
- Your confirmation email gives the address and packing guidance.
- Remove the game card and microSD card. Don't send the dock or Joy-Con unless I ask.
- I repair it, test it and send it back insured and tracked.
A port repair works on your own console, so your data stays on it, but it's still sensible to back up your saves first where you can. You can see my other prices on the Nintendo Switch repairs page or in my full Switch repair cost guide.
Frequently asked questions
Is the charging port price the same for the Switch Lite and OLED?
Yes. The charging port replacement is £65 on the original Switch, the OLED and the Lite. The Switch 2 is priced separately because it has two ports.
What happens if the port wasn't the problem?
If the new port doesn't fix it because the fault is a chip behind it, I'll get in touch before doing anything else and explain the options, including a board repair quote.
Will my games and saves still be there afterwards?
A port replacement is done on your own console, so your data stays on it in most cases. Backing up first is still a good idea.
