A Game Boy Advance repair costs between £29 and £109 with me, depending on the job, and a GBA SP repair or mod costs between £29 and £119. Every price below is fixed and includes the parts, the work, testing and an insured, tracked return. Nintendo doesn't repair any Game Boy Advance model, so independent repair is the only route now.

Does Nintendo still repair the Game Boy Advance?

No. Nintendo's UK repair booking covers the Switch family only. It doesn't repair the Game Boy, Game Boy Color or Game Boy Advance, and none of them is under warranty. If your GBA or SP needs work, an independent repairer is the way to go. You'll find all the services on my Game Boy Advance and SP repair page.

Game Boy Advance (AGB-001) prices

This is the original, landscape Game Boy Advance that runs on AA batteries. The model code is on the label on the back.

  • IPS screen mod: £85. A drop-in IPS kit (a modern backlit screen that fits the original shell without cutting) plus a new glass lens.
  • Laminated IPS screen mod: £109. A laminated kit has the glass bonded to the panel, so it looks closer to a phone screen. The price includes the new laminated-ready shell it needs.
  • Recap and restoration: £45. A recap replaces the ageing electrolytic capacitors. The GBA only has a handful, so this is a targeted job for sound or display faults, not a cure-all.
  • Battery corrosion repair: £35. Cleaning and repairing the battery contacts and nearby tracks after old batteries have leaked.
  • No sound or crackly sound: £35. A new speaker and an amp board, which is a small amplifier that replaces the old sound path for louder, cleaner sound.
  • Buttons, power switch or cartridge slot repair: £29. Cleaning or new contact pads for sticky buttons, a power switch repair, or sorting dirty or bent cartridge slot pins.
  • USB-C rechargeable battery mod: £55. A rechargeable pack and a USB-C port in place of disposable batteries. Depending on the kit, the battery compartment may be used for the pack.

Game Boy Advance SP (AGS-001 and AGS-101) prices

The SP is the clamshell model with a built-in rechargeable battery. The AGS-001 has a frontlight, and the AGS-101 has a brighter backlight.

What every price includes

  • The parts and kits listed for that job.
  • The work itself, and testing on my bench before it goes back.
  • An insured, tracked return. You pay the postage to send it to me.

If I can't fix it, I refund what you paid, less the return postage.

Mods need a working console

A screen mod, USB-C mod or rechargeable battery mod needs a console that already works. If yours has a fault as well, that needs fixing first. Book the repair alongside the mod, or get in touch and I'll tell you what makes sense.

Some jobs need a look before I can price them properly. Very corroded boards, a cracked screen under the lens, and damaged SP hinges or ribbon cables fall into that group, so please get in touch first.

Is it worth repairing a Game Boy Advance?

For most owners, yes. These are well-built consoles, and the common faults, like leaked batteries, a dim screen, weak sound or an aged SP battery, are well understood. A repair usually costs less than buying a replacement in similar condition, and you keep the console you already have.

The one thing to weigh up is collector value. Mods can't be undone easily, and if your console is rare or boxed, a mod may reduce its value to collectors. A straight repair doesn't carry that concern in the same way.

If you're weighing up screens, my guide to the GBA IPS screen mod covers drop-in against laminated. For the older models, see Game Boy and Game Boy Color repair costs.

How to send it

  1. Book and pay online.
  2. Your confirmation email gives the address and packing guidance. Remove the batteries and any cartridge, and pack the console in a sturdy box.
  3. I do the work, test it, and send it back insured and tracked.

Every job comes with a 12-month warranty, and it's no fix, no fee.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the laminated screen mod dearer than the drop-in one?

The laminated kit needs a new laminated-ready shell because it won't fit the original one, and the shell is included in the £109 price. The drop-in kit fits the original shell without cutting and comes with a new glass lens.

Can I send a swollen SP battery?

No. Royal Mail won't carry a swollen or damaged lithium battery. If your SP battery is bulging, get in touch before you post anything and we can work out what to do.

Is the SP full upgrade better value than booking jobs separately?

If you want all three, yes. The full upgrade covers the IPS screen, the USB-C mod and a new battery for £119, which is about £50 less than booking them one at a time.
