Game Boy Advance SP USB-C Charging Mod
No fix, no fee · 12-month warranty · Insured, tracked returns
Reasons to book
- You've lost the original SP charger, or it's on its last legs
- You'd rather charge it with a USB-C cable
- The old charge port is worn and you'd rather upgrade than repair it
- You're adding an IPS screen and want modern charging to match
The Game Boy Advance SP charges through an old-style Nintendo connector. The chargers are getting harder to find, and the ports wear with age, so a loose or crackly connection when you plug in is a common complaint. A USB-C mod replaces that connector with a USB-C port, so you can charge your SP with a USB-C cable instead of the old Nintendo charger.
I open the SP, remove the old charge port, and fit the USB-C board in its place. Then I test charging and battery play on my bench before it goes back. This mod covers both SP models: the frontlit AGS-001 and the backlit AGS-101, and the price is the same for either.
There are a few honest limits. The mod needs a working console, and it won't help an SP whose battery no longer holds charge. If your battery is tired, add the SP battery replacement, or look at the SP full upgrade, which combines USB-C, a new battery and an IPS screen for less than booking them separately. A swollen or damaged lithium battery can't be posted, so if your battery is bulging, get in touch first. Mods can't be undone easily. If your SP is boxed or rare, a mod may reduce its value to collectors, so it's worth thinking about that before you book.
If you're not sure whether your SP needs a repair or an upgrade, GBA SP won't charge is a good place to start.
