PS5 no power repairs vary in price, and even more in what's covered. Here's what a fair price looks like in the UK, and the questions worth asking before you book.

A PS5 that won't turn on is one of the more expensive faults to have, but it's still usually far cheaper to repair than to replace. The price depends on what has actually failed, and on what a repairer's quote really covers. Two repairs with similar headline prices can include very different things.

Here's what to expect in the UK, and the questions worth asking.

What independent repairers charge

For a PS5 that won't turn on, most independent UK repairers charge somewhere between about £95 and £130. Some charge more, up to about £200, particularly where courier collection is included, and some list only a power supply swap rather than board repairs.

My price is £119 all-in for the original PS5 or the PS5 Slim. That covers a genuine Sony power supply or a repair to the board's power circuit, an hour's test running a demanding game, and tracked return postage. The work is covered by a 12-month warranty. You pay to post the console to me.

Power supply only, or board faults too?

This is the biggest difference between quotes. A "power supply replacement" price only helps if the power supply is actually what failed. If the fault is on the board, such as a blown fuse or a shorted component, some repairers charge extra or can't help.

My price covers both: the power supply, and general faults in the board's power circuit.

What's included matters as much as the price

When you compare quotes, check these:

  • Genuine or copy. Ask whether the replacement power supply is a genuine Sony unit. I only fit genuine units, new or refurbished depending on supply.
  • Postage. A PS5 is a big, heavy parcel. Some prices include return postage, some include collection both ways at a higher price, and some are walk-in only.
  • Testing. A console that won't turn on needs testing properly after the repair, under a real load, not just switched on. I test for an hour running a demanding game.
  • Warranty. Warranties range from a few months to 12 months.
  • What happens if it can't be fixed. Some repairers keep a diagnostic or attempt fee. With me, if I can't repair it, it's no fix, no fee: I refund what you paid, less return postage.
  • What happens if it's just software. Some consoles that seem dead need only a system software repair. Ask what you'd pay then. With me, it's £49, and I refund the difference.

What can change the price

A software fault. If the console only needs its system software repaired, it's a much smaller job. Many software faults can be fixed at home. See PS5 blue light of death.

Liquid metal damage. On consoles that have been opened before, leaked liquid metal can cause shorts around the processor. That can be a much bigger job, so I quote for it separately before doing any work.

A failed processor or main chip. If a surge or a fault has damaged the processor or one of the board's main chips, I can't repair it yet. With me, that's no fix, no fee.

The PS5 Pro. Its power supply and board are different, and I don't repair its power faults yet.

Is it worth repairing?

Almost always, if the fault is the power supply or the board's power circuit. A repair costs a fraction of a new console, and you keep your console, your games and your saves. The exception is when the processor or a main chip has failed, which is why diagnosis matters before anyone quotes you for parts.

Before you pay for anything

Work through the free checks in PS5 won't turn on: a known-good cable and wall socket, a full power cycle, and Safe Mode if the console lights up. If it died after a power cut, PS5 dead after a power cut covers what to check first.

My recommendation

Expect to pay around £95 to £130 for a PS5 no power repair from an independent repairer, and compare what's covered, not just the headline price. Ask whether board faults are included, whether the power supply is genuine, how the console is tested, and what you'd pay if it turns out to be software. My PS5 no power repair is £119 all-in, with a genuine power supply or board repair, an hour's test, tracked return postage and a 12-month warranty. When you're ready, how to pack a PS5 for posting will help it arrive safely.
