The HD07 is the most recent mainstream Supersonic, which changes the first question you should be asking.
On an older machine, the question is "what's wrong with it". On an HD07, the question is "is this still Dyson's problem?" — because a good number of these are young enough to still be covered, and if yours is, sending it to me would be the wrong move and would cost you money you don't need to spend.
So this page starts with the warranty, and I'd rather you got to the end of the next two sections and closed the tab than paid me for something you could have had done for nothing.
If you're not certain yours is an HD07, the number is on the base of the handle once the filter cage comes off — here's where to look.
Check whether it's covered
Dyson's UK warranty on hair care has been two years from purchase. Terms do change, so check the current position rather than relying on a page written by someone who doesn't work for them — but two years is the figure to work with.
Three ways to find out where you stand:
Your purchase date. Search your email for the order confirmation. That alone answers it in most cases.
Your Dyson account. If you registered the machine, the date and remaining cover are there.
Ask Dyson. Their support can tell you from the serial number, which is printed on the base of the handle next to the model number. This takes minutes and it's free.
If you never registered it, you haven't lost the warranty. Registration makes claiming easier; proof of purchase is what actually matters. A receipt or an order email is enough.
If it's in warranty, don't send it to me
I'll be blunt about this because it costs people real money.
Having a machine repaired independently will generally end any remaining manufacturer cover. If I open your in-warranty HD07, fix it, and something unrelated fails four months later, you've paid me for the first repair and you've lost your free route for the second. That's a bad outcome and it's entirely avoidable.
So: if it's covered, go to Dyson. Their process is straightforward, they'll collect or you'll post it, and it costs you nothing. I lose the work. That's fine — I'd rather lose it than take it from someone who didn't need to give it to me.
Come back to me when the cover runs out.
What Dyson will and won't cover
Worth understanding before you start the claim, so you're not surprised.
Covered: manufacturing defects and component failures in normal use. A motor that fails, an element that goes, a board that dies — that's exactly what the warranty is for.
Not usually covered: accidental damage, and damage from misuse. This is where cable faults get interesting, because a flex that's failed from being wrapped tightly round the body thousands of times sits in a grey area between normal wear and handling damage. Dyson may or may not take it on. It's worth asking rather than assuming either way.
Also worth knowing: separate from the manufacturer's warranty, you may have rights against the retailer you bought it from if the machine failed earlier than one reasonably should. I'm a repairer and not a lawyer, so I'd only say it's worth looking into if your HD07 has failed unusually early — it's a route most people don't know exists.
If Dyson declines the claim, or the cover has run out, what to do with an out-of-warranty Supersonic covers your options in full.
What actually goes wrong on an HD07
Same family of faults as every Supersonic — the architecture hasn't changed in ways that alter what fails — but the mix is different because these machines are younger.
Filter restriction is proportionally more common. Not because HD07s clog faster, but because a newer owner is less likely to have ever taken the cage off. Weak airflow, running hot, then cut-outs. Free to fix, and genuinely the first thing to check.
Cable faults are less common than on the older models, simply because there's been less time to break the strands — though as above, how it's been stored matters more than how old it is. A three-year-old machine can have a dead cable and an eight-year-old one can be perfect.
Genuine component failures are proportionally more likely. On a decade-old machine, a fault is usually wear. On a young HD07, a fault is more likely to be something that was going to fail regardless — which is precisely the sort of thing a warranty exists to cover, and another reason to check before you spend.
Buttons and attachments behave the same as on every other model: residue in the button seam, magnetic fittings that loosen.
What I do with one
Once it's genuinely out of warranty and it's mine to work on: cable tested along its length rather than looked at, filter mesh and cage condition, the airway cleared properly, bearings and impeller checked, sensors tested for sane values, and airflow and outlet temperature measured on every setting against a known-good reference.
Back together, run repeatedly to catch anything intermittent, and PAT safety tested before it's packed.
Common questions
How long is the Dyson warranty on a Supersonic?
Two years from purchase in the UK, on the terms that have applied for some time. Check the current terms and your own purchase date rather than taking a number off a web page.
Will you tell me if my machine is still in warranty?
If you tell me the model and roughly when you bought it, yes — and if it looks like it's covered I'll say so before you send anything. It's a thirty-second conversation that saves you a repair bill.
Does cleaning the filter myself void anything?
No. The filter is designed to be removed and cleaned — that's routine maintenance, not disassembly, and Dyson expects you to do it.
Dyson turned my claim down. What now?
Then it's a normal independent repair and I'm happy to take it. Tell me what they said when you book, because their reason often narrows the diagnosis before I've opened it.
Mine is just outside two years and it's failed. Is that just bad luck?
Possibly not — that's exactly the situation where it's worth asking about your rights against the retailer before assuming you have to pay. And if that goes nowhere, a repair on a two-year-old machine is very comfortably worth doing.
How long does a repair take?
The current turnaround is shown when you book. If a part needs ordering, I'll tell you as soon as I've diagnosed it and give you a realistic date.
Find your purchase date first. If it's inside two years, stop reading and talk to Dyson — it'll cost you nothing and it keeps your cover intact, which is worth more than anything I can do for you. While you're waiting, take the filter cage off and clean the mesh properly, because if that fixes it you don't need either of us.
If you're out of cover, or Dyson has declined it, send it to me and I'll find out what's wrong. It starts with a £4.99 assessment. I quote before doing any work, and if you go ahead the £4.99 comes off the repair, which includes a 12-month warranty, a PAT safety test and return postage. If you decide not to, or I can't fix it, I post it back and the £4.99 covers that postage. Every repair is done by me personally, on my own bench, start to finish. And whichever route you take: note your serial number down somewhere now, because it's a lot easier to read today than it will be in five years.
