About this controller

This is a pre-owned Sony DualSense controller for PS5 that I've refurbished and fitted with a pair of Hall effect sticks. Standard DualSense sticks read their position through contacts that wear as the stick moves, and that wear is what causes most stick drift. Hall effect sticks read position with a magnet and a sensor that don't touch, so there's far less to wear out.

Apart from the sticks, it's a standard DualSense. The adaptive triggers, haptics, touchpad, motion controls, light bar and microphone all work as normal, and it pairs with your PS5 in the usual way.

What I've done to it

  • Fitted a pair of Hall effect sticks in place of the standard ones.

  • Opened and cleaned the controller inside and out, including the buttons and triggers.

  • Checked the battery charges and holds its charge.

  • Tested everything before listing it, as below.

How it's tested

  • Real-game test

Every controller is played on a real game before it's listed, so the sticks, triggers and buttons are tested the way you'll actually use them.

  • Stick Drift Test

I run both sticks through my Stick Drift Test, the same free tool you can use at home, to check each stick settles back to centre.

  • Every function checked

I check every button, both triggers, the touchpad, haptics, the light bar, the speaker, the headphone jack and charging over USB-C.

Grades

Grades describe how the shell looks, nothing else. Every grade gets the same stick upgrade, the same testing and the same 12-month warranty.

Cosmetic only

Excellent

Very light signs of use at most. You might spot a faint mark on the shell if you look closely.

Good

Visible signs of use, such as light scratches or scuffs on the shell. It works the same as Excellent: same sticks, same testing, same warranty.

In the box

The controller only.

It charges with any standard USB-C cable (not included) — use one that supports data and charging, as some charge-only cables won't pair it with your console.

12-month warranty

Your controller is covered for 12 months from delivery. If it develops a fault in that time, including stick drift, tell me and I'll repair it. I'll cover the postage. If I can't repair it, I'll replace it or refund you. The warranty doesn't cover accidental damage, liquid damage, or a controller that's been opened or repaired by someone else.

The battery is covered if it fails. Gradual loss of battery life with age is normal for any rechargeable battery and isn't a fault.

It's on top of your rights under consumer law, not instead of them.

Delivery & returns

Royal Mail Tracked 48 is free, or choose Tracked 24 (£3) or Special Delivery (£11). UK addresses only. I'll email you the tracking number when it's on its way.

Ships within 1 working day. Working days are Monday to Friday, excluding bank holidays.

Changed your mind? You can cancel within 14 days of delivery, for any reason. Tell me, then send it back in the condition you received it. You pay the return postage, and I refund what you paid, including the standard delivery.

Faulty? If it arrives faulty, or develops a fault under warranty, tell me and I'll arrange the return at my cost.

Frequently asked questions

Will Hall effect sticks stop drift?
They make it far less likely. Drift on standard sticks usually comes from wear on the contacts inside them. Hall effect sticks read position with magnets, so they don't wear in the same way. If a stick does start to drift within the warranty, I'll put it right.
Is it used or new?
It's a used Sony controller, sometimes called second-hand or pre-owned, that I've refurbished. That's different from buying used as-is: I've opened it, fitted new Hall effect sticks, cleaned it and tested everything, and it comes with a 12-month warranty.
Is it a Sony controller?
Yes, it is a Sony DualSense. The sticks are aftermarket Hall effect modules, which is the point of the upgrade. Any other part I replace is new or refurbished, depending on supply.
What's the difference between Excellent and Good?
Only how it looks. Excellent has very light signs of use at most; Good has visible marks, such as light scratches on the shell. Both get the same sticks, the same testing and the same 12-month warranty.
Can I return it if I change my mind?
Yes. You can cancel within 14 days of delivery, for any reason. You pay the return postage, and I refund what you paid, including the standard delivery. If it's faulty, I cover the cost of sending it back.
When will it be posted?
Ships within 1 working day, by Royal Mail, and I'll email you the tracking number. Working days are Monday to Friday, excluding bank holidays.
Does it come with a cable?
No, it's the controller only. It charges with any standard USB-C cable — use one that supports data and charging, as some charge-only cables won't pair it with your console.
Can you fit Hall effect sticks to my own controller?
Yes. If you already have a DualSense, you can post it to me for the same Hall effect upgrade. The link is under Related repairs and reading on this page.
