PS5 Fan Replacement Cost in the UK, and Which Fan Fits Which Model

PS5 fan repairs vary in price, and PS5 fans aren't all the same. Here's what a fair price looks like, which fan fits your model, and what to check before you book.

If your PS5 fan is grinding, ticking or has stopped, you'll want to know what a repair costs, and whether a fan from the internet will do the job. The answer depends on what's actually wrong, and on which PS5 you have.

Here's what to expect in the UK.

First, is it the fan?

Most loud PS5 fans aren't broken. They're healthy fans working hard because the heatsink is clogged with dust. A new fan won't fix that, because it still can't push air through blocked fins. PS5 fan loud explains how to tell the difference.

A fan that really needs replacing usually grinds, ticks or wobbles, even after cleaning, or has stopped altogether. A fan that stopped right after the console was opened usually has a damaged connector rather than a failed fan. See PS5 fan connector broken.

What repairers charge

  • Fan replacement: most independent UK repairers charge somewhere between about £80 and £130.
  • Fan connector repair: prices vary more widely, from about £35 from some online sellers to about £100 from specialist repairers, depending on what's included.

My prices are:

Both include tracked return postage and an hour's test running a demanding game. The work is covered by a 12-month warranty.

Which fan fits which PS5

PS5 fans aren't interchangeable across every model:

  • The original PS5 has used fans from more than one manufacturer, with different blade counts, such as 17-blade and 23-blade versions. They're built to fit the same console.
  • The PS5 Slim uses its own fan, a 19-blade design.
  • The PS5 Pro uses its own design again.

Your model number is on the label on the back or underside of the console, starting CFI-. Match the fan to your model, not just to "PS5".

Genuine or copy?

Cheap unbranded fans are widely sold online. They may fit, but a fan is a precision part: blade shape and bearing quality decide how much air it moves and how quiet it is. A poor copy can be louder, move less air, or wear out quickly, which is exactly the problem you were trying to fix. I only fit genuine fans, new or refurbished depending on supply.

What's included matters

When you compare quotes, check:

  • Genuine fan or copy.
  • Postage. Some prices include it, some don't.
  • Testing. A fan repair should be tested under a real load, not just switched on.
  • Warranty. Check the length, and what it covers.
  • What happens if it's something else. With me, if the fault turns out to be different, I tell you and quote. If you'd rather not go ahead, it's no fix, no fee.

Should you replace it yourself?

You can, but a PS5 fan replacement means a full strip-down, and the fan connector is exactly where DIY repairs most often go wrong. If you do it, unplug the fan by the plug itself, pulling straight up, never by the wires.

Common questions

Can I add a new fan to the overheating service?

Yes. If your fan is worn and the heatsink is also clogged, the two repairs work well together, because the console is already apart. Get in touch and I'll tell you the combined price before any work is done.

How long does a PS5 fan last?

There's no fixed lifespan. It depends on how many hours the console runs, how warm the room is and how much dust it pulls in. Many fans last the life of the console. A fan that starts to grind or tick is telling you its bearing is wearing.

Will a new fan make my PS5 quieter?

If the old fan was worn, yes: a genuine replacement fan runs smoothly again. If the noise was from a clogged heatsink, a new fan alone won't make much difference, which is why it's worth being sure what's wrong first.

My recommendation

Make sure it's the fan before paying for one: grinding, ticking, wobbling or not spinning, rather than just loud. If it is, fit a genuine fan made for your model. If the fan stopped right after the console was opened, suspect the connector first. For a stopped fan, see PS5 fan not spinning.
