This Galaxy A17 arrived with the kind of damage I see most often on Samsung’s A series: a screen shattered from corner to corner, with glass splintering off the edges. Underneath, the phone was still working. That’s common, and it’s good news, because it means the repair is the screen and nothing else.
The part: a genuine Samsung service pack
I fitted a genuine Samsung screen, supplied in Samsung’s own service-pack packaging. On the A17, the screen comes as a complete front assembly, already fitted into a new frame. That’s better for you than a bare screen glued into the old frame: the fit is factory-correct, the frame is undamaged, and there’s no loose glass edge to lift later.
If you’re weighing up genuine and aftermarket screens, I’ve written about the differences in genuine vs aftermarket Samsung screens.

What the repair involves
Because the new screen comes in its own frame, the job is really a transplant. Everything inside the phone moves across from the old frame to the new one:
the back cover and the inner cover that carries the wireless antenna and cameras’ surround
the main board, with the cameras
the battery, carefully lifted off its adhesive and refitted
the charging-port board and the flex cables that link it to the main board

One detail I liked: the main flex cable in this A17 is printed with SM-A166B, the model code of the Galaxy A16. Samsung shares a lot of parts across the A range, which is part of why these phones are so repairable.
This one was a nice, straightforward job, with no stubborn adhesive and no fiddly surprises. It took about an hour on the bench, including testing.

The checks before it goes back
A new screen isn’t finished until the whole phone has been checked. Before posting it back I test:
touch across the whole screen, including the edges
the display for lines, tint or dead areas
fingerprint unlock
front and rear cameras
charging, calls and the speakers

Should you repair a cracked A17?
Usually, yes. The A17 is a current model, and a screen replacement costs a fraction of a new phone. Your data, apps and settings stay as they are. For the full sums, see Samsung Galaxy A screen replacement cost in the UK and is it worth repairing a Samsung Galaxy A.
If yours is cracked, my Galaxy A17 repair page has the current fixed price, with return postage and a 12-month warranty included.
