Dyson Supersonic Won't Turn On?

£79

No fix, no fee · 12-month warranty · Insured, tracked returns

Signs you need this repair

  • Nothing happens when you press the button
  • No lights at all
  • No sound from the motor
  • Dead as soon as you plug it in
  • Worked fine yesterday, nothing today

When a Supersonic is completely dead — no lights, no whirr, nothing at all when you press the button — the fault is nearly always in one of two places: the mains cable, or the power switch in the handle. Both are repairable and both are covered by the same fixed £79.

The cable is the more common of the two. It flexes every time the dryer is picked up, wound round the handle, or pulled from the socket by the lead, and eventually the fine copper strands inside fatigue and break — usually within an inch or two of where the lead enters the handle. From the outside the cable looks perfect. Inside, the copper has snapped.

The switch is the other candidate. Supersonics get used in steam, with wet hands, and the switch takes a press every single time. Contacts wear, and eventually one stops making. If yours had become intermittent before it died completely, that points at the switch rather than the lead.

What happens here: I open it, test the cable end to end and the switch independently, and replace whichever has failed. The dryer is reassembled, run-tested and PAT safety tested before it comes back to you. £79 covers the part, the labour, insured tracked return postage and the test. There is nothing else to pay.

Worth knowing before you post it: if the dryer shows any sign of life at all — a light, a beep, a few seconds of running before it stops — this isn't the right page. A unit that starts and then cuts out is a thermal fault, and that's a different repair.

Frequently asked questions

It was working intermittently before it died — does that change anything?
No, same repair and same price. Intermittent operation before a total failure usually points at the switch rather than the cable, but I test both either way.
Could it just be the socket or the plug fuse?
Worth checking before you post it. Try a different socket, and if your plug has a replaceable fuse, try a new one. It costs nothing to rule out and I'd rather you did than paid me to.
What's included in the £79?
The part, the labour, insured tracked return postage and a full PAT safety test. No fix, no fee: if I can't repair it, I refund what you paid, less £4.99 return postage.

About this service

How does your mail-in repair service work?
Three steps: book and pay for your repair online, post your item to me using the packing instructions I email you, and I repair it, test it, and send it back tracked. You'll get updates as it moves through each stage.
What is your no-fix-no-fee promise?
Payment is taken upfront at booking. If I can't fix your item, there's no repair fee — I refund what you paid, less £4.99 return postage to send it back to you. Assessment bookings work differently: the £4.99 covers return postage and comes off the repair if you go ahead, but isn't refunded if you decide not to or it can't be repaired.
Do your repairs come with a warranty?
Yes. Every repair carries a 12-month workmanship warranty against the same fault returning. If it does, I'll put it right.
How long will my repair take?
Most repairs are completed within 1-3 working days of arrival, then posted back by tracked post. If a part needs ordering, I'll tell you as soon as I've diagnosed it and give you a realistic date. Diagnostic-led jobs take a little longer if I'm waiting on your approval of a quote.
How do I package my item safely to post it?
I send clear packing guidance when you book. In short: wrap the item well, use plenty of padding, and a sturdy box — the return leg is insured and tracked, and good packing on the way in protects your item too.
Where do I send my item?
Your postage address is included in the confirmation email after you book — you don't post anything until you've booked, so your item is always matched to your order.
Do you cover the whole UK?
Yes — I run a mail-in repair service, so you can send your item from anywhere in the UK. There's nothing local you need to find.
What if my item turns out to be unrepairable?
I'll tell you honestly and, where the fault allows, offer an alternative. If I can't fix it, there's no repair fee — I refund what you paid, less £4.99 return postage to send it back to you.
