Dyson Supersonic Cable Repair
No fix, no fee · 12-month warranty · Insured, tracked returns
Signs you need this repair
- Only works when you hold the cable at an angle
- Cuts in and out during use
- Works if you wiggle the lead near the handle
- Visible kink, split or scorching on the lead
- Stopped working after the cable was caught or pulled
If your Supersonic works when the cable is held one way and stops when you let go, you've already found the fault. The lead has broken internally — and this is the single most common failure on these dryers.
It happens because of where the cable lives. It gets wound round the handle for storage, pulled out of sockets by the lead rather than the plug, trapped under the dryer on a shelf, and flexed hard every single time it's used. The conductors inside are fine strands of copper and they fatigue. Usually the break is within a couple of inches of where the lead enters the handle, though it can also go at the plug end.
The outside of the cable often looks completely fine, which is why this fault confuses people. The insulation is intact. The copper inside it isn't. A broken conductor that intermittently makes contact is also why it works some of the time — and why it will get worse rather than better.
This one matters more than most. An intermittent connection in a lead carrying around seven amps arcs where it's broken, and that generates heat inside insulation you can't see through. It isn't a fault to carry on using around. If yours is doing this, stop using it.
I replace the full cable assembly with a correctly rated lead, not a repaired one — a spliced mains cable on a handheld appliance isn't something I'm willing to send back to a customer. Reassembled, run-tested, PAT tested, and returned insured and tracked. £79 covers everything.
