Signs you need this repair

  • Not as powerful as it used to be
  • Takes longer to dry than it did
  • Runs hotter in the hand
  • Never been cleaned properly
  • Used daily in a salon

This one isn't a repair. It's for a Supersonic that still works but has quietly got worse — slower, hotter, noisier — and hasn't been properly cleaned in years.

Everything a Supersonic pulls in goes through the fine mesh filter around the base of the handle. Hair, dust, hairspray, dry shampoo, the lot. Rinsing the outside doesn't touch what's built up behind it. Over a couple of years that becomes a dense mat the dryer has to breathe through, and the result is exactly what people describe: it just doesn't seem as powerful as it used to be.

There's a second reason to do it, which is that restricted airflow is what kills these dryers. The heater relies on moving air to carry the heat away. Starve it and the temperature climbs until the thermal cut-off trips — and then you're looking at my £85 repair instead of this one.

What you get: the dryer comes apart, the whole airflow path is cleaned rather than just the filter, a new genuine inner filter is fitted, the motor is checked, and it's run-tested and PAT safety tested before it comes back to you insured and tracked. £49, with nothing else to pay.

If it's used in a salon, this is worth doing annually. Product build-up is far heavier, the machines run for hours rather than minutes, and the difference a proper service makes is much more obvious.

Dyson Supersonic stripped for a deep clean, a brush clearing hair from the inner filter, with cleaned and clogged filters alongside

Frequently asked questions

Can I not just clean the filter myself?
You can and you should — slide the cage down and brush it out every few weeks. This service is for what's built up beyond the filter, in the airflow path you can't reach.
How often is it worth doing?
Domestic use, every couple of years. Salon use, annually. If yours is already running hot or feeling weak, now.
Will this fix a dryer that's cutting out?
If the thermal cut-off has already tripped, no — that's the £85 repair. If it's getting hot but still working, this may well prevent it.

About this service

How does your mail-in repair service work?
Three steps: book and pay for your repair online, post your item to me using the packing instructions I email you, and I repair it, test it, and send it back tracked. You'll get updates as it moves through each stage.
What is your no-fix-no-fee promise?
Payment is taken upfront at booking. If I can't fix your item, there's no repair fee — I refund what you paid, less £4.99 return postage to send it back to you. Assessment bookings work differently: the £4.99 covers return postage and comes off the repair if you go ahead, but isn't refunded if you decide not to or it can't be repaired.
Do your repairs come with a warranty?
Yes. Every repair carries a 12-month workmanship warranty against the same fault returning. If it does, I'll put it right.
How long will my repair take?
Most repairs are completed within 1-3 working days of arrival, then posted back by tracked post. If a part needs ordering, I'll tell you as soon as I've diagnosed it and give you a realistic date. Diagnostic-led jobs take a little longer if I'm waiting on your approval of a quote.
How do I package my item safely to post it?
I send clear packing guidance when you book. In short: wrap the item well, use plenty of padding, and a sturdy box — the return leg is insured and tracked, and good packing on the way in protects your item too.
Where do I send my item?
Your postage address is included in the confirmation email after you book — you don't post anything until you've booked, so your item is always matched to your order.
Do you cover the whole UK?
Yes — I run a mail-in repair service, so you can send your item from anywhere in the UK. There's nothing local you need to find.
What if my item turns out to be unrepairable?
I'll tell you honestly and, where the fault allows, offer an alternative. If I can't fix it, there's no repair fee — I refund what you paid, less £4.99 return postage to send it back to you.
