Dyson Supersonic Weak Airflow or Loud Noise
No fix, no fee · 12-month warranty · Insured, tracked returns
Signs you need this repair
- Airflow much weaker than it used to be
- Rattling, grinding or whining noise
- Higher pitched than it was
- Takes much longer to dry hair
- Noise changes when you tilt it
Weak airflow and a new noise both come from the same part of a Supersonic: the air path and the motor that drives it. At one end it's a filter and airway clogged with hair, dust and product. At the other it's a worn motor or a damaged impeller. From the outside they sound and feel the same, so this is one fault I won't put a single price on before I've opened it.
So it starts with an assessment. You pay £4.99 when you book, which covers the tracked return postage. I open it, check the airflow path end to end, measure the airflow against a known-good Supersonic, and test the motor for resistance, free running and bearing condition. Then I send you a quote, and nothing else happens until you say yes.
Most of the time it's the airflow, and that's the £49 service and deep clean. If the motor or impeller has failed, the repair is from £109. Go ahead and the £4.99 comes off the price, with a 12-month warranty, a PAT safety test and insured tracked return postage included. Decide against it, or if it can't be repaired, I post it back and the £4.99 covers that postage.
Try one thing first, because it's free. The filter is the fine mesh sleeve around the base of the handle. Slide it down, brush it out thoroughly and see if the airflow comes back. A lot of dryers that sound like a dying motor turn out to have a filter that hasn't been cleaned in a long time.
