If your GHD Curve curling tong or wand has stopped working, here's some good news that a lot of people don't expect: it can very often be repaired. There's a common assumption that curling tongs are throwaway items once they fault — but for the GHD Curve range, replacement parts are available and many of the usual faults are a straightforward, worthwhile fix. So before you write off a premium curling tong, it's well worth finding out what's actually wrong.
I've been repairing electronics for over 25 years, so here's an honest rundown of what typically goes wrong with a GHD Curve, what's fixable, and how it works.
The GHD Curve range — and that it's repairable
The GHD Curve family covers the various curling tongs and wands — the Classic Curl, Soft Curl, Creative Curl, Classic Wave and so on — all running at GHD's 185°C styling temperature with an on/off button and ceramic-coated barrels.
Unlike some assumptions floating around, these aren't sealed, disposable units with no hope of repair. Replacement parts — cables in particular, and heating components — are available, and the tongs can be opened and worked on. So when a GHD Curve develops a fault, a repair is very often possible, at a fraction of the £100-plus cost of a new one.
The most common GHD Curve faults
Cutting out, or only working when you move the cable
Just like GHD straighteners, the mains cable on a Curve tong fails where it flexes near the handle, from repeated bending and wrapping. The result: a tong that cuts in and out, or only works when the cable's held at a certain angle. This is one of the most common faults — and one of the most straightforward, inexpensive fixes, since direct-replacement Curve cables are readily available. The symptom is the same as the one I describe in my guide to GHD cable problems.
Won't heat up
A Curve that powers on but doesn't get hot points to a heating-side fault — commonly a thermal fuse or the heating element in the barrel. These are repairable with the right parts. It's the tong equivalent of the classic straightener no-heat fault I cover in why won't my GHD heat up.
Completely dead — no power
No lights, no heat, nothing? That's a power fault — most often the cable or the internal fuse. Worth checking the plug fuse first (it's free), then it's a standard repair.
Not getting hot enough, or uneven heat along the barrel
A Curve that warms but never reaches full styling temperature, or heats unevenly along the barrel, usually points to a heating element or temperature-sensor issue — repairable, and worth sorting, because a tong that's not properly hot won't hold a curl and means more passes (and more heat) on your hair.
What I can and can't fix — honestly
I'll be straight with you. The great majority of GHD Curve faults — cables, fuses, heating elements, power faults — are repairable, and I'll fix them properly. There are occasional exceptions: severe internal damage, or a fault where the specific part genuinely can't be sourced, may not be economically repairable. But those are the exception, not the rule — and with the no-fix-no-fee promise, if I can't complete it I refund what you paid, less £4.99 return postage.
So the honest headline is the opposite of the usual assumption: don't bin your GHD Curve — most faults are a worthwhile fix.
What it costs
A GHD Curve curling tong repair is a flat £39 all-in — including the part, the labour, return postage and a full PAT safety test, with no hidden charges. Every repair is backed by my no-fix-no-fee promise — if I can't fix it, you don't pay for the repair — and a 12-month warranty against the same fault returning.
How the repair works
Send your GHD Curve in and I'll diagnose the actual fault properly — testing the cable, fuse, element, sensor and connections — fit the correct replacement part, then heat-test the tong to confirm the barrel reaches the right temperature, and PAT safety-test it before it comes back. I do the work myself, in-house, from start to finish — the same care and honesty I give every GHD repair.
Is it worth repairing a GHD Curve?
Almost always, yes. A GHD Curve is a premium curling tong that costs well over £100 new, and the common faults are a single inexpensive component on an otherwise excellent tool. A £39 repair — with the no-fix-no-fee promise, so there's no risk — is a clear saving against replacing it, and it keeps a good tool out of landfill. The old idea that curling tongs are simply disposable when they fault just isn't true for the GHD Curve.
If your GHD Curve or curling wand has stopped working, you can book a GHD Curve repair for £39 all in — I'll send simple instructions for posting it in, confirm the fault when it arrives, and get it back to you working as it should. And if it's one of the rare cases that can't be fixed, I'll tell you straight, and the no-fix-no-fee promise means you won't pay for the repair.
