GHD Eclipse & Platinum Cable Replacement
No fix, no fee · 12-month warranty · Insured, tracked returns
Signs you need this repair
- Dead: no lights, no beep
- Cuts out when you move the lead
- Only works with the cable held at an angle
- Visible damage or kinking where the lead enters the iron
- The lead is damaged near the plug
If your GHD Eclipse or original Platinum (S8T261) has gone dead, cuts out when you move the lead, or only works with the cable held at a certain angle, the usual cause is the mains cable where it enters the iron, and that can be replaced. It's £29 all-in: the cable, labour, a PAT test and tracked return postage, with a 12-month warranty on the work.
The cable is the most common thing to fail on these irons. It flexes every time they're used, and eventually the wires inside break where the lead meets the body. From the outside, it looks exactly like the iron has died.
To be straight with you about the rest: the Eclipse and the original Platinum are sealed units. The heaters, thermistor, thermal fuse and circuit board are combined into a single assembly with no replaceable parts. If the fault is inside rather than in the cable, a new cable won't bring the iron back. Can GHD Eclipse and Platinum straighteners be repaired? explains why.
Not sure which it is? Get in touch before you post anything, tell me what the iron is doing, and I'll tell you honestly whether the cable is likely to be the problem. To check your model: the Eclipse and original Platinum have a round push-button. The newer Platinum+ (S8T262) has a sliding switch and can be repaired like the standard models, on my GHD straightener repair page.
