Which Xbox controllers I buy

I buy

  • Xbox Wireless Controller for Xbox Series X & SAny colour. It has a Share button in the middle, below the View and Menu buttons, and a USB-C charging port on top. Its model number is 1914.

I don't buy

  • Older Xbox One controllersNo Share button, and a micro-USB port.
  • Xbox Elite controllersSeries 1 or 2.

Before you send it

Take the batteries out, including a rechargeable battery pack. You don't need to reset it or unpair it, and you don't need the box or a cable. Just the controller, packed securely in bubble wrap or a padded envelope.

What I check

Both sticks, every button and trigger, charging and connection, and that it's a genuine Microsoft controller. The sticks go through the same test you can run at home with my free controller tester: try it before you book, and you'll know which condition to choose.

Want to keep it instead?

If drift is the only problem, a repair could be the better choice. A stick drift repair is from £19, and a Hall effect upgrade is £34: Hall effect sticks read their position with magnets, so drift is far less likely to come back.

What happens to your controller

I repair it, test it on a real game, and sell it refurbished with a warranty in my shop. One I can't bring back up to standard is used for parts or recycled.

How much is my Xbox controller worth?
It depends on its condition: my prices for working, drifting and faulty controllers are in the table above. Any colour, controller only.
Can I sell an Xbox controller with stick drift?
Yes. Choose "Stick drift" when you book, and that's the price I pay. Drift is one of the faults I repair, so a drifting controller is still worth something to me.
Do you buy broken or faulty Xbox controllers?
Yes. If it won't charge, connect or switch on, has a button or trigger fault, or a cracked case, choose "Faulty".
Can I sell my Xbox controller for cash?
Yes. I pay you by bank transfer, not store credit, once I've checked the controller.
Do I need to reset it first?
No. You don't need to reset or unpair it, and you don't need the box or a cable. Do take the batteries out.
Do you buy Xbox One or Elite controllers?
Not at the moment. I only buy the Xbox Wireless Controller for Xbox Series X|S, the one with the Share button.

Yes. I email you a prepaid Royal Mail label.
What if you don't agree with the condition I chose?

I'll email you a revised price before anything else happens. You can accept it, have the controller posted back at your cost, or ask me to recycle it. My terms have the details.
